Top must have accessories for the HTC Wildfire
The HTC Wildfire is the baby brother to the HTC Desire. Visually they look quite similar, but when you look a little closer you’ll spot a few key differences. The Wildfire has a slightly smaller, lower resolution screen, that doesn’t drain your battery so quickly, touch sensitive controls and is generally smaller and lighter.

You get a few Wildfire Accessories in the box to start you off, but if you really want to make the most of the phone, there are a number of accessories that are well worth investing in.

1. HTC Wildfire Screen Protector

If you’re only going to invest in one accessory for your Wildfire then it really needs to be a screen protector. The screen on your phone is the most vulnerable part of the handset, damage it and it could render your phone useless. This screen protector is made by HTC specifically for the Wildfire and is a perfect fit. It doesn’t interfere with the touch sensitive controls at the bottom of the screen or the earpiece at the top of the display.

2. HTC PO S530 Carry Pouch

Another accessory from HTC that’s made specifically for the Wildfire is the PO S530 Carry Pouch. What makes this one stand out is the built in pull strap. When your phone is in the case the strap tucks in and prevents your phone from falling out, but when you want to remove your phone, just give the strap a gentle tug and it will raise your phone from the case quickly and effortlessly. The case is made from a high quality leather and has a soft interior that helps keep the screen clean and prevent scratches.

3. HTC CC C200 Car Charger

Ask any smartphone owner about their battery life and you’ll be met with a pretty negative response. Even though the battery in the Wildfire out performs that of the HTC Desire, it’s still going to drain quickly as soon as you start using your phone in the car with any GPS apps - Sat Nav in particular.

4. Sandisk 16GB Memory Card

The 3.5″ screen on the Wildfire is great for looking at photo’s, watching movies and playing games, but the limited internal memory means that you’re not going to be able to store much on the phone without replacing the memory card. The HTC Wildfire supports memory cards of up to 32GB in size, but considering the processing power of the phone I’d suggest sticking to 16GB for now.

5. Sony Ericsson MW600 Stereo Bluetooth Headset

You might think it strange to see a Sony Ericsson headset in a list of accessories for a HTC phone, but the truth is this is one of the best bluetooth headsets available at the moment. It’s incredibly compact and is designed to be either hung around your neck or clipped on to your clothing.

Aiming at Android, Microsoft sues Motorola
Microsoft today sued Motorola, alleging several of the cell phone maker's Android devices infringe on Redmond's patents.

Microsoft both sued Motorola in U.S. District Court in Washington and brought a complaint before the International Trade Commission. Microsoft alleges Motorola infringes on nine Microsoft patents related to key smartphone experiences such as syncing e-mail, calendar, and contacts, and notifying applications about changes in signal strength and battery power, Microsoft said. The complaint cites Motorola's Droid 2 phone as an example.

"We have a responsibility to our customers, partners, and shareholders to safeguard the billions of dollars we invest each year in bringing innovative software products and services to market," Microsoft deputy general counsel Horacio Gutierrez said in a statement.

The suit comes as Microsoft is trying to line up phone makers to use its Windows Phone 7 operating system. Although Google-developed Android can be used free of charge, Microsoft has been trying to make the case that phone makers should consider the potential intellectual-property issues and related costs before going with Android.

Earlier this year, Apple sued HTC--which makes both Windows Phone and Android phones--over patent issues. Apple expanded its suit in June, adding two additional patents. Then HTC responded with a countersuit, alleging Apple infringes five of its patents. Microsoft provides those using Windows Mobile and Windows Phone operating systems with patent protections, something that Google has yet to commit to.

Motorola was once a significant licensee of Windows Mobile, but in recent years has shifted largely to Android.

Motorola had no immediate comment on Microsoft's suit. A Google representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a blog posting, Gutierrez defended Microsoft's need to take legal action.

"The rules of the road are long-established in the software industry, and fundamental to the industry's growth and economic impact is respect for others' intellectual property rights," he said. "Our action today merely seeks to ensure respect for our intellectual property rights infringed by Android devices; and judging by the recent actions by Apple and Oracle, we are not alone in this respect."

Microsoft sues Motorola over Android phones
Microsoft Corp sued Motorola Inc, alleging patent infringement on the handset maker's line of Android phones, in the latest development in a web of legal actions in the evolving smartphone business.

Microsoft, the world's largest software company, charged that former ally Motorola infringed nine of its patents in the Android-based smartphones, which run on software built by Google Inc.

Microsoft makes its own Windows phone software, which it charges handset makers to use in their phones. Motorola, like some rivals, has shifted toward Google's free Android as a more attractive option, straining the relationship between the two companies.

The suits come 10 days before Microsoft launches the new version of its mobile software, which it hopes will win back market share from Apple Inc's iPhone and Google.

The patents in question relate to synchronizing e-mail, calendars and contacts, scheduling meetings and notifying applications of changes in signal strength and battery power, Microsoft said in a statement.

A Motorola spokeswoman said the company has not yet received a copy of the suit, but based on its strong intellectual property portfolio, plans to "vigorously defend itself."

Google said it was disappointed in Microsoft's move, which it claimed would threaten innovation in the sector. "While we are not a party to this lawsuit, we stand behind the Android platform and the partners who have helped us to develop it," the company said in an e-mailed statement.

The suit is the latest in a complicated series of legal actions between various phone makers and software firms over who owns patents to the technology used in smartphones, kicked off by Nokia suing Apple last year, and Apple subsequently suing handset maker HTC Corp. Oracle Corp has also sued Google over Android software.

"Our action today merely seeks to ensure respect for our intellectual property rights infringed by Android devices," said Horacio Gutierrez, deputy general counsel in charge of Microsoft's intellectual property, in a blog post on the company's website. "Judging by the recent actions by Apple and Oracle, we are not alone in this respect."

Microsoft said it filed its actions against Motorola at the International Trade Commission and in federal court in Seattle.

The case is 2:10-cv-01577 Microsoft Corporation v. Motorola Inc, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
