i have a question if any of u can help me i will really appreciate it.

i hav resigned from my co as my contract is not renewed. the question is if i was asked 'y did u leave the co?' should i be honest telling them that my contract is not renewed ( i fear that by telling this it will give bad impression to the interviewer) or should i make up stories such as my career goals are not align with the co?
