just sharing...
interviewers like to ask open ended questions. the answer could be yes or no, but what they are actually looking for is how good you are in elaborating your reasons and defending you opinion.
Take for example:
You have just received a complain from you customers, would you entertain the customer yourself or ask your staff to entertain them?
both options is viable, it is how you reasons that stands out to them.

QUOTE(wlcling @ Jan 25 2006, 11:47 AM) i would like to deepen that scenario... Some people tend to get 'stuck' when they hear these kinds of questions. If the scenario fits, I would go by the 2nd option. If I would to entertain the customer myself, the interviewer might think I am focusing on the wrong areas. (I have staff to do that, why am I doing the nitty gritty details when I am supposed to be guiding my staff to handle that through my leadership role instead). However in interviews I try not to leave any dead silence after questions, which is by answering as quick as possible. This however means less time thinking = less thoughts to present. (Which might actually be bad depending on the situation) What do you guys think? I know a lil dead silence is not extremely harmful, but let's say an interviewer poses you a tough question (even to a point that the question's really tricky). You rack your mind to understand the question, you feel the points you want to say out are somewhere buried on your grey matter, but you are just not finding it. Would you keep trying to find your answer thus allowing prolonged dead sillence (you are not even sure if you can find the answer or not), or do you think it would be better if after some thinking, you admit you do not know the answer. So really the situation is:- Prolonged silence with possibility(?) of answering the question VS Short silence with admitting 'defeat'.So, what' it be? well said. never leave a decision without first making it.

QUOTE(one.good.guy @ Jan 26 2006, 02:14 PM) interviews should be in two ways. i believe that u can have the liberty to throw back questions to ur interviewers until u have a clear picture of the intention of the question- breaking down, e.g the general question into smaller details which is easier to respond to, or till u managed to find a viable answer. it's always good to ask in moderation. interviewers' don't like to feel as though they are being interviewed.

An exception to this rule is my last interview. It was a 2nd interview session, and the interviewer said, "This interview is for you to ask questions". I must say, I wasn't quite that prepared for this. So, I got the generals' out. Working environment, Company Expansion, Future opportunities. Anything you guys feel I missed out? (The interview lasted 1 hour with these basic questions) [/quote] whoa! that's cool!

The last question is "Tell me,why I should give U this JOB??..I said"Coz Im lucky. " i guess the answer should be similar to the question "why do you think that you are the next american idol!"

QUOTE(rubetrio @ Feb 20 2006, 06:59 PM) What is the purpose for an interviewer to ask me whether I would continue my studies on Master in IT? What should I answer for the question? I am currently a fresh graduate. or maybe they are just checking your short term plan. they will be scared to hire a person who works a short while and then decide to quit to continue for a master degree.

QUOTE(WildChai @ Feb 28 2006, 02:15 PM) Got interviewed then ask to do spontaneous presentation. they ask u to present what u have done last time. That's why there was a huge whiteboard inside the board room. they wanna test your presentation skills ma. if you are familiar with normal meeting presentation scenario, you should be fine.

QUOTE(eRiCCa @ Mar 16 2006, 09:42 PM) but... cant they just set a number, like 300 for petrol? and if they think that rich kids dont pay full attention, then it's unfair to those rich kids who have good attitudes? if you set just 300 for petrol, spending more than 300 means you will have to get out of your own pocket lor

QUOTE(vioz @ May 9 2006, 10:14 AM) Should I still ask for an offer letter though there's a high percentage that I might turn the offer down ? It is better to ask for one. who knows, the other job that you think that you will gonna get, suddenly falls through. so it is better to have a plan B. Just remember, don't sign the acceptance column until you are really sure that you want to be working with the company.

QUOTE(ckryan @ May 21 2006, 04:42 PM) Q:What is your great interest? Should I relate my interest to the job description when trying to answer this kind of question? My 2 cents say that you should relate their product or services into your interest.

QUOTE(babymiki @ Feb 15 2007, 10:17 PM) thank you ^^ Added on March 3, 2007, 1:57 pmi did not get the job @ Honeywell. Maybe because I did not answer this question well "Why did u choose this line when ur first job was in the hotel line?" My answer : I think hotel line does not suit me so I chose this line. Who knows I might be interested in this line. Everyone deserve a chance to work once right? Did I answer wrongly? and the next question the pop up was "If you find it not suitable then u'll leave us after a few months?" that is why one must not answer a question in a negative tone. Not matter how true or how honest one must be, it must always be in a positive tone. An example of an answer: "When i was applying for my first job, i didn't know much about it as i needed to start work soon to have an income. But after some time, i realized that the job has somehow limited the usage of my skills and abilities. Therefore, when i heard that this organization is hiring, i've done plenty of research and found out that i have a few strengths that might be beneficial of this company"

QUOTE(klien @ Apr 21 2007, 05:39 PM) What was the outcome when you had to take a lead in an important project? Is this a trick question? It always come to a point whether you have really led a project before. If you never handled any project, you can honestly tell the interviewer "I was not requested to lead any project before as my boss assigned me to something else" if you have completed a project, then you should start by explaining about the objective of the project, what was the plan to reach completion. Then what was the set back you have to face and your action plan to counter these set backs. In the end, you should tell the interviewer what you gain from the completion of the project in terms of experience and monetary factors.
