Yes, unfortunately for the candidate, the practice of offering the candidate their salary + X% top up still very widespread.

normally what is the value of X in the X% top up?

It depends on what method the HR cook up, or maybe its base on the bosses instruction.

A typical example would be for a post of "IT Manager".

Some malaysian survey says IT managers earn average of RM4,500.

So they might decide, ok, lets set the salary cap as 4,500 since "we're an average company".

Then you come in with current salary as 3,500 and ask for 5,000. In this case HR will offer you maybe +15% (cos they just pulled the number out from thin air) and tell the hiring manager its a "policy".

Then they'll go back and tell the boss they hired you for 4K achieving 11% savings on budget because that savings has been put into HR's KPI so they get a better bonus/increment or some crap.

if 15% is the case...not worthy to change into new job lo.....need to start over again to suit into the new work environment....

any one here getting 25% or more when hopping into new job?
