It depend who you meet at the first interview? If you have meet the HR only for the first time then most likely you will meet the department head this time. Sometimes you can meet both the HR and Department Head for the first interview. In this case you will meet a higher authority say GM.

In your case you had general character assessment by HR and technical assessment by the Manager. This time around the higher authority will do general assessment. It is just a formality because the assessment had already been check by the HR. You can expect the same question you get from the HR guy on the first interview.

Oh ya >< Thanks for reminding. Hope I wont sounds too rude in the email. It was a rush morning and I think being short and simple in the e-mail is great. In fact, maybe that's not the way in business communication.  doh.gif
*

It was not rude but nor was it is not very formal. Given the way people write these days you should not worry too much about it.

That's why these companies dont really spend time to go through your resume b4 asking u for an interview. or u may turn out to be a back up if the candidate who they desire rejects the offer.
*

Nope, you are no back up. Many people can fit the bill. HR dont read to well smile.gif

Thank for your opinion. Maybe my face too garang when I am asking. lol. muka busuk haha tongue.gif  tongue.gif  tongue.gif  cool2.gif  cool2.gif

This could be one reason. The other could be you had not been paying attention as the answers to your question were revealed earlier.

Sorry to say this, but Msia is a uncivilized society, and there is no civicness instill in our school education, hence in Msian context, you dont need to send a letter. But if you are in UK or US, please do so, it do carry weight.

In Msia, I would say, if you are going for higher executive job, say more than rm15000K (not fixed numbers here), please do send a letter, coz normally the interview is done by CEO. etc.
*

How many thank you letters have you written to prospective employers in US or UK. You seem like an expert on the job market there. May I ask if the yanks and the brits adore bootlickers?
QUOTE(furryfluffy @ May 20 2011, 09:28 PM)
Is it necessary in the first place?

I interview & recruit ... I dun need this and even if u send it to me, it won't gain u extra points.
*

This I agree. On the contrary, if I already had you in mind then it builds better rapport.

Erm... usually, for the question like " well, you graduated end of last year, what you did for the period in between ? " any idea how to answer? except doing part time?
*

The truth is the best. If it is doing part time then then say it. Alternatively you can say, seeking gainful employment. If you want impressive lies then say you attempted to write a book.

may i know how to answer questions like: how many companies hav u been for interview, wat are those? have u being offered? an so on??

thanks in advance
*
Is that question relevant to the interview? Why?

If they answer no then you reply something like
Then I guess it is off the records then. Tell them the truth and try to get friendly to build good rapport.

If they answer yes and maybe give a reason like to know how much to offer you. Then ask them did they ever thought that you could have stretched the truth for a question like this.

i have qualification A and been working in A related field.... attended few interviews in B field where my qualification A seems so irrelevant to it.... interviewers of B asked y i wanted this job and i answered... to expand my horizons, have new exposure to B blah blah blah... but then they further asked y u chose to do A @ univ...  i aswered simply bcos i was allowed to do it   sweat.gif  how would u respond if u were me in order to give an impressive answer? this really gets me......  sad.gif
*

There is nothing wrong with your reply. Many people are not working in profession that is related to their field of study. Malaysian universities not offering applicants the course they applied for is also a very familiar story.

Perhaps you should explore if, "to expand my horizons, have new exposure to B blah blah blah..." is an impressive answer.

I was in HR. I dont have to resort to such action to ascertain if a candidate is over stating his current salary. I have my own ways detect a "bluff". What I think of HR that use this method - no class!

As for copy of NRIC, I had no comments. Your are entering into an employment contract and some basic documentation is necessary.

if 15% is the case...not worthy to change into new job lo.....need to start over again to suit into the new work environment....

any one here getting 25% or more when hopping into new job?
*

That is common when you are underpaid. It usually happens when it is your first job. People love to underpay fresh grad because they are desperate for a job to get experience (ride cow to find horse mentality). When fresh grad make their first jump 120% is common and some are as high as 200%

Having worked for sometime and being paid at industry average, 120% increase is rare.

what do they wanna know when thry are asking do u have relatives working in this company?

if yes, i should be honest? i believe it wont reduce my chance of success to getting a job?
*

If they had a policy not to hire relative then you will not get the job if you have relatives there. Otherwise It should not hurt your chances. I agree that honesty is the best as sooner or later the truth will come out.

This is a common question in the interview and "What's your expected Salary" ? When this happen. A momentarily pause and it's like a gun holding on to your head. Usually, how do you approach the strategy to get the salary you want? I ask you guys, will you be prefer to mention your expected salary first or you prefer the interviewer to call out the budget they are willing to pay for this position you applied for.

Sometimes ago, i read somewhere that it's best not to give away your salary expectation figure out first due to the fact that you could actually surprise that the company is willing to pay you more.

If you mention out your expected salary to early, HR may have save the sum which they are willing to pay you more.
*

I dont care waht is their budget. I always put 1.5 times the industry average.

Hi,

If the interviewer asked me why didn't I consider joining back Ernst & Young as I had went for internship last year, what should I answer?

Should I answer "its due to no job openings'? or what is the most appropriate answer??

I think its kinda tricky question.
P.S I'm applying for a  small company or rather medium firms.  smile.gif
*

Yes, it is a tricky question.
You may be better off saying "its due to no job openings".
Before you start looking for a better answer, can you tell me the diff between the big 4 and small or medium company.

Hmm..if i were to answer it that way wouldn't it give an impression to the interviewer that in the near future i might consider leaving them and rejoin EY?

I suppose all employers wants staff to stay with them for the long run i guess?  biggrin.gif

Well, i would define the difference as in company size and employee numbers haha, that's just my own perception i not sure about other ppl's tough smile.gif

P.S I'm applying for Cheng & Co in old klang road, u could actually google them up smile.gif Its a local established and well known Malaysian firm.
*

Are you kidding? Even a 9 year old can tell me that.

By the way, I have no reason to google up your prospective employer. I am not the one seeking a job from them. If they already interview you, then just wait. Otherwise, I suggest you use your experience in EY to picture what working at Cheng is like just from reading their site. From there I am sure you already found a better answer to why you choose them over EY thus answering the question why you did not go back to EY. If you still cant find the answer then throw your thoughts here and other forumers can help you think.

Kel,
Your working experience is shallow but at least you had a period of internship. You can use this internship experience (from EY) to picture the environment in Cheng (from their website). Then tell us your thoughts.

Only forumers know you are desperate for the job and looking for the first available opening. Thanks for the truth and lets just forget it for now. We are here to help you think how to best answer the question you had asked earlier.

No wisdom. I had filled in negotiable on the forms in the past and will continue to do so.

Pls advise..Thanks

A bird in hand is better than two in the bushes. You can just say you are sick by calling them on the last minute. You are just going for the first interview. The entire process may take some time. You will still end up temporary working for the company that had firm up the job with you. So, it will come a time you decide to go and be face with the same scenario.

Jnls,
In that case I think you can go for the interview and start negotiating salary. They already know what you are capable of from your internship period with them. That is why they are calling you.

To all HR and employees, have you ever come across a question whereby the interviewer asks "Career, Job Satisfaction or Money?". What are some good examples of answering this kind of question where you have to pick one and give an intelligent reason?
*

There are no intelligent answer to this question. When there is no intelligent answer dont answer but go around it (ie talk cock "intelligently")

hello all.
i just going for interview where they ask me what is my expected salary. so i tell them 1.8k.at the end of the interview, they said i got the job.
today, they call me asking me that graduate engineer salary range is 2k - 2.5k. they ask me again what is my expected salary. im nervous at that the time so i told them my expected salary is 2.3k. later, they ask me to complete the application form thru email.

now, the application form also ask the expected salary. i thought i want to put 2.5k, because it is negotiable right? but im afraid they will view me as someone who can make the decision well. i mean 'takda pendirian'  sweat.gif

should i go with 2.3k or put 2.5k  icon_question.gif
*

What is the use of "Pendirian yang telalu Kuat" that ends of loosing the job? Everything is open for negotiation. It is not paku belanda.
