I think just be yourself and modest with your answer. Of course be realistic and give them a reason to retain you or train you.

For example I applied to banking industry, I just said :
"If I am selected, I hope to see myself some where in a junior to middle level management in XX area or have a exposure that includes XX. On top of that I have completed my CFA and working to obtain full charter holder"

Just have fun. If you see X position earns the money you want and its possible to obtain in such a time frame, say that position but hide money as the reason!

This is easy, if you want to work in the banking industry this should be at the tip of your tongue!
in point form:
1) PM announce to lower the regulation for foreign institution in malaysia
2) What is the OPR (overnight policy rate) and make your deduction
3) How is the banking growing? Retail, commercial or investment
4) Name some BIG name and what they are doing or should or planning (eg Teh Hong Piow is the key judge for Miss Public Bank pageant tongue.gif )
5) (if you want to stand out, say this point and prepare to present your point in a logical and structure. If you fail to that and mention this point you are screw!)The banking industry is losing it competitive edge to places like singapore but we should do ...... or could do ....

ya..that's quite harsh la to simply say people got no value. If 1st timer kena like that, sure can get into major breakdown.. is it like a walk-in interview or what? because if not, I'm sure they'll look at your qualification first see you got value or not before invite ppl for interview..

ask back to the employer.."how can u justify i got no value to your company, why should you resist to employ me?"

then reply them with full confidence that.."however, i can justify myself got high value to your company, shouldn't you employ me??"...hence u should be getting prepared to answer them "how can u justify urself got high value" smile.gif

cheers

normal answer:
i got no value simply because i'm not hired yet.

daring answer:
if that so, then both of us just wasting our time in this interview.

the "no value" thingy is part of the interview script.

its not that the interviewer is telling u to get lost, so dont misunderstand.

doh.gif it's not because Google gives you "obsolete" info but reason is you're not 'searching' it right.

If you go to thestar.com I'm very sure you will get loads of business and banking info till you're overloaded. Then proceed to Bank Negara website and practically surf EVERY SINGLE local banks' (CIMB, Maybank, RHB etc) sites for information. Now tell me, are you still unable to find any report and information?

I think it's the Malaysian culture. The interview is yours, and you should take the effort to get it done. You really ought to thank underpressure for the reply... If you don't do the research on your own, it's very easy for the interviewer to find out that you know nuts about the industry.

I think if you did freelancing is alright, as long as the job you're interviewing for - is connected to your freelance job. Show them your portfolio.

May I ask... what's the reason you're going back to the 9-5pm job when you're freelancing?

I can foresee that you'll have a tough time convincing the interviewer(s) on why you're going back to 9-5pm yet proving yourself 'valuable' to the organization. They would be skeptical in the sense that you're back to the stable job because you're not good enough as a freelancer - thus no clientele to serve. Be ready to be bombarded with questions like that...
