Any one can advise how big the amplifier (wattage etc) required to drive the subwoofer with 18" 800watts 8 ohms so that i can get a solid sound when playing techno-music. I have only 1 speaker...is it necessary to have a pair. Thanks.

18" woofer..? sub simply means it handles 18Hz to 180Hz... woofer goes from 50hz - 500hz.. more bass range, but not sub bass..
800watt.. i assume its RMS.?? 8 ohms simply means it can handle wires up to 300 feet.. PA systems use 4 ohms. 1000 feet, car speakers = 4ohm, 100 feet max. 8 ohm normal for home use..
if u use 1 speaker. u combine L+R ...
amp power recommended... 500W... RMS.. driving one channel L+R = 1000W ... u can play up to 80% max volume..!!
hope it helps.

If you follow JRX118SP specs: 500 W (peak), 300 W (Continues) But thats for a 4ohm 18inch..for 8 ohms...guess the more the merrier This post has been edited by azbro: Oct 2 2010, 03:53 PM

there's no such thing as "too much power" there is however "too little" and that could cause damage to the speaker
