I just want to know is it Compiere popular in Malaysia? how many for u use it or hear it b4.

Compiere is a very well known ERP...

It's the ERP that get rid of PeopleSoft, which is not simple considering that PeopleSoft get rid of JD Edwards..

Anyway, although compiere itself is open source, it's running on oracle.. which is not really a part of open source solutions.

compiere is only known to people who don't understand business. real business uses real ERP software. period.

and yes, i have seen and used real ERP software. open source have a long...long...long way to go to even smell the smoke the big guys left.

to answer OP question, i have not seen nor heard compiere being used in malaysia because most business/organization do not need it. they want it because it sounds cool and can brag to other people on how they are saving money but the truth is that they are bleeding resources left and right.

my opinion is that you don't need ERP unless your business grows exponentially. by the time your business grows, you can scale with the overheads SAP, Oracle and Peoplesoft bring.

sure there are some PHP-based, web-based ERP software but seriously....

It's impossible for business to grow exponentially all the time, especially in m'sia.

Well, raw materials manufacturing industry will need erp more than anything else. It makes the mind numb by looking at those figures, let alone analyzing them.

"real ERP software" cost an arm or a leg, unless the yearly profit at least a few m's, it's not feasible to get the erp after all, since we seldom heard of people lose count of their profit before earning their first m.

After all, it's up to what the owner actually thinks anyway...

I'm sure everyone has been into some kind of erp environment before and I believe compeire itself is a honourable effort for an open source software providing erp solutions.. but who knows maybe they chuck it from somewhere else...of course we cannot compare this free thing to those things costing us an arm, no?

But then.. getting open source erp itself is a risk as no one can be held accountable if there is a major bug in the program itself...

no public listed company in KL is using open source erp yet, i believe.

based on what i know, Compiere implementation already done in a few company in malaysia and Singapore. According to the end user, compiere are user friendy than SAP.

beside that, cost for implement SAP, is the problem for us, plus local ERP vendor can't provide the solution which can suit to our requirement. that is main reason i looking for open source ERP, and customize it ourself.

So i really need some feedback from ur guy,especially for those who are implement, use compiere b4.

For those who want to try it out, you don't need to run Oracle. Use Firebird together with Fyracle for Oracle emulation.
