Hi all G5 users.
I just got this excellent device myself and I am astounded by the value that this device provides without paying a hefty sum for an android phone.
I have some questions regarding data access/mobile internet or mobile network (as the android menu calls it). I would normally turn off "Enable always-on mobile" and only turn on when I need data access, however this will prevent push gmail or other syncs to happen (i.e. facebook updates, etc.)
Is there a way/option to only access mobile internet/data based on need basis rather than always on?
I came from a symbian phone and there is an option provided to only connect to mobile internet on need basis.
Appreciate all your help. This thread has been a great resource for G5 owners.
Thanks.

Hi SGPC, Thanks for helping me out here. What i mean is when there is a demand for mobile internet e.g. when you open Facebook for Android, it will try to connect 3G/HSDPA for data and after you close that app, it will disconnect. I normally just press and hold the power button and i can toggle mobile internet there or use System Info Widget as well to toggle 3G/2G.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem as well... Only updates the time once press on the screen. QUOTE(mykomputer @ Nov 11 2010, 09:57 AM) Hi SG5 gang, I got a question/issue with my sg5. The clock seems not to update after a while. Need to press or touch the screen to update the time. This has caused my morning alarm not sounding off. Any ideas?

Hi there, I found the solution to my clock issue. It was actually killed using advance task killer when the screen is off. I set autokill to run at each screen off and it killed the clock app. Solution: Select clock to be ignored so it won't be killed. Tested and the alarm worked.

I see. Let us know if the Load Monitor takes up more battery power.

Yeah... I was just about to mention this. I'm not sure whether mine is a defect or not as I'm surprise to see no backlight on the 4 physical buttons. QUOTE(basSist @ Nov 14 2010, 01:21 AM) i just found out the buttons of the phone does not have backlight

It will be nice to have since most of the cheaper phones has backlit keys/buttons. Not asking for capacitive buttons but at least a backlit physical button. Anyway, still a very high value for money phone. QUOTE(xDarkKn1ghtx @ Nov 14 2010, 01:57 AM) Its not really needed though. They are quite easy to remember as u can feel the curve. White is quite nice. Gives the back a nice finish. Mines white too =) Kenny maybe u should update the user list with the colours xD would be hard work though.

Yes, when you set it to 2G, your mobile data/internet will only run at GPRS/EDGE which will reduce battery consumption as compared to running on 3G/HSDPA speeds. Recommended to switch off mobile data/internet when not in use. Contrary to this, I manage to get a much better battery life with WiFi turn on all the time. Of course Android will auto switch off WiFi when your screen is off I would assume it is WiFi sleep mode. QUOTE(BlueSpark @ Nov 14 2010, 12:11 PM) Is there any significant battery usage between 2G and 3G? I leave it on overnight, 12am - 10am, from 99% go to 35%. 1st time smart phone user

Hi fellow G5 users,
Do you experience an instance when a call is incoming and your mp3 ringtone starts to play, it will be softer after playing for the first few seconds?
It happened to me sometimes and intermittently.

I really hope so too. It shows that Samsung even take care of customers that purchase their budget series phones. Just point your camera on the bar/QR code and make sure the code is across the red line. The app will scan the patterns and work. Works for me all the time even though Galaxy 5 does not have AF capabilities. There are issues with the previous version where the app keep freezing after scanning a code, but it has been fixed in the latest version. Perhaps you could explain to us how did you perform the scanning? QUOTE(maranello55 @ Nov 21 2010, 03:11 PM) standard size barcode....monitor resolution or camera resolution? It says it only work with camera that has auto focus.....g5 dont seems to have it. But how do u make urs work? This post has been edited by Psykit: Nov 21 2010, 03:54 PM
