One thing to look out for is the applications available to the Playbook. If the applications are going to be limited compared to Apple, it will be nice for business use, but non-business ppl might not enjoy it as much as you would an iPad.

I hope RIM will make their application design platform more friendly to developers, or we'll still be stuck in the application desert.

I am hoping at least the current apps and games are compatible. But do you really need what can be run on your phone, to run on the Playbook?

I would prefer if we have apps like Kindle (for e-reading) and more touch-based games if we are going to be getting a tablet. Or other apps that would not be so cool on my phone due to the small screen, but would rock on my Playbook thanks to screen real-estate. smile.gif

Kindle, thankfully, is definitely going to be on it (WOOT!). I saw the announcement on Twitter thumbup.gif

Don't get me wrong, I'm a RIM fanboy and love the idea of the Playbook. But I'm having a hard time thinking how it would be better than the iPad in terms of functionality if the application population is not improved compared to the ones we have on our phone.

As for why RIM didn't do this when they built the Torch.... for one thing...do you want to be carrying a Playbook size phone? And another, they only bought QNX (the company designing the Playbook's OS) after the Torch was launched if I'm not wrong.

Maybe its slanted more for entertainment value than work.
"Playbook" is also a term used in sports for the book you keep all your strategy and tactics.

Totally agree. The USB part really trumps the competition. lol

Playbook at least sounds better than "blackpad", the original name ppl thought it would be called.

According to RIM estimates, do be on sale early 2011 in US, available for other countries in Q2. But see how first... lol. I'm still waiting for the Torch >.<
