No.You can keep on changing the speed as you please.However if you reboot the clock speed will return to stock speed.It's a fail/safe method in case your OC fails.

Maemo is actually pretty easy to get used to.
Advanced power user aka titans kernel is a alternative kernel to custom OC.You can defined the clock speed that you want & also it contain mulltiple OC profile that uses lower voltages.Lower voltage OC means higher battery life.
I never used Qcpufreq but I think it's some sort of OC tool for newbie.Heard it's simple to use.
