If only this thing was running at least Android, I'd be all over it. Sigh.

Uuhhh...Even Dell Streak still running Android 1.6.
Dell & SE have this weird habit of releasing device with old OS doh.gif.

At least this release with a latest OS is a good change.

What version are you using?Latest version of fMMS will download the setting itself if I'm not mistaken.
Try using "Havoc" setting.

thanks for the link wschin, PR1.3 really coming soon. According to the link, this new FW can support dualboot Maemo-Meego.

I wish tons of fixes & improvement coming in this new update. rclxm9.gif

We already have multiboot kernel for that. Those who have meddle with OTG/NITDroid knows that.
I'm more interested in knowing if there will any new additional functions.
At very least I expect Flash 10.1 in PR 1.3

http://meego.com/community/blogs/harrihaku...go-calling-n900

I'll vote for Hakulinen as next Nokia president just for this post.
Why this post significant?
Because after so much of criticism that Nokia didn't care for this piece of amazing technology that called N900 from whole lot of people(including majority of tech reviewer),they are giving N900 a entire new life.
In this post you guys can know what to expect from PR1.3(it's on bebeh!) & MeeGo v 1.1.
But there is a catch.Since N900's multiboot is mainly done for app developer to tryout apps in both Maemo & MeeGo,it's not known whether there will be future updates for it.
Whatever it is it's nice to know Nokia do care about this small community. Also this can be considered as win for Maemo community because now Nokia recognize our contribution.I do hope we get continuous good news like this.

30th October,Imma waiting for you!

Ok.Lets talk about N8 vs N900.
First of all it's unfair to compare N8 with N900.
It's because N900 is a experimental device(a very stable experimental device) & N8 is a full fledged "smartphone".

On to the real thing.
Display. As aspire pointed out, capacitive or resistive;CBD or nothing; the higher amount of pixel will always be better for overall viewing,N900 have 800 x 480 which helps it browse internet well.N8 have much lower reso.

Battery.N900's battery last about 1 day on normal usage.Main reason why battery life so low is probably because Maemo is basically a desktop class OS with much more "things" than normal OS.N8's symbian^3 should do a lot better this this section although it's only using 1.2A battery.

OS.This make or break for 99% of users.Maemo is an experimental OS.It's discontinued & the next version will be MeeGo.N900 will be able to run both this OS.Amount of OS is very low for this OS because of small amount of users & lack of promotion of this OS to the developers by Nokia. However things will change with MeeGo since Intel + Nokia are going all out to woo developers for MeeGo.Symbian meanwhile always had a good support. There are plenty of apps out there. But I'm not sure whether previous version of symbians apps will run in s^3 or not. It's because s^3 is rewritten in qt there's been lots of change in kernels. However in this moment S^3 seems like a more sensible choice of average users.

Eye candy.N900 lose badly in this section. It's bulky, weights more & everything but it's got QWERTY keyboard.I'll choose physical qwerty anyday over in screen only keyboard.N8 looks pretty nice overall. From what I've heard from a Nokia R& D worker they have checked "upside & down" that N8 don't have any design flaw like N900's earlier microUSB port.

Usage.N900 is a Internet Tablet. The browsing ability of this phone beat the crap out of N8(from the early reviews). On multimedia side N8 beat the crap out N900.HDMI,good speakers, camera, bla bla bla,you can google for the rest of multimedia functions. On overall I'll stay N900 is slighty better because while being good in browsing section,it's also very good at multimedia side. For example we have fcamera that'll help to take DSLR like pictures. Also we have dual speakers(it'll be nice if Nokia includes equalizer in PR1.3).You can also watch videos while connection your LCD to N900.I've done this to watch standard movie avi file while connected to 42" LCD & the file plays perfectly.

In simpler word,if your just average joe phone user with badass camera phone, take N8.But if you're into "adventurous" side of phone, take N900.You'll have fun learning new things everyday with this device.

Anyone want to add?Andy?

You can use this in MeeGo 1.1 once it's released.
It's already been confirmed that 3G video call will be supported in MeeGo 1.1 for Nokia N900.

New PR means new multiboot kernel is needed.
Anyone thinks 3 OS in single phone is overkill?

QUOTE(Shelby @ Oct 15 2010, 03:05 PM)
got anyone know when PR1.3 will  launch officially?
*
My advise is don't ask this question & just enjoy your phone.
It'll be out when Nokia decide to release it.
The 1st generation users like me have learned the hard way that once PR is announced,it could take a long time to get released.PR 1.2 was this case.

I've my reason for saying that.

Hopefully Nokia will do another ranger program when N9 is announced.I have to say N8 don't interest me much but on other hand I'm very interested on N9's progress.
I'm kinda hoping Nokia will make a beta testing like they did with N900.

Added on October 16, 2010, 2:39 ambtw as I said before N8's default browser is nowhere near microB's level.Hopefully the MeeGo team don't bring same failure to fennec browser.(Both of these OS using webkit browsers)

On the other story,MeeGo 1.1 release date is on 21st October 2010.That's next week babeh!

you believe in deliver by courier?? rclxub.gif
*
Courier is not the main problem. Most of time things will arrive safely although in some rare case it'll be late(2-3 days).
Seller was the one you should watch out.2 of my most trusted sellers are Clareen & x132755.Both of them always delivers items on time.

On the N8 news,it seems like Nokia messed up a bit on the OTG kernel?
Some members complaining that external drivers that requires additional power refuse to be detected in N8.
So score 1 for the Maemo HEN team 0 for Nokia Symbian team?

Andy,can you test this?

Sent to the AP company directly or sent back to the seller. As far as I know both of the seller I mentioned do provide after sale service like claiming warranty.
