I bought 3 mths oni,hdd corrupted.

What he said is true.

Your external hdd is just a "backup" storage, it should not be treated as your main storage in case your external storage goes kaput, like what happened to you.

Hi guys my 1.5TB external seagate harddisk just not working anymore.
Anyone know where can I send to for data recovery ? I have about 300 GB of data inside...I bought the hardisk in 12th August 2009 so just 1 year 2 months old...

I think the harddisk is not spinning anymore fter a few trys.
Initially when  I have tried the first time yesterday, it says the seagate driver failed to be installed, now it become like cannot detect the external harddisk...

Any help is appreciated or like some one else say the external harddisk
is the grave of all data where you pay to store something you cannot recover, what a ironny to the actual purpose of a external drive...

It cost RM480 and 100 manhours to accumulate the data and now is gone..

You can try adriot data recovery at http://www.adrc.net/.

I usually goto to another company in singapore for my data recovery since i am currently based in singapore.

i recover 20gb of data n it cost me rm800++

It depends on type of damage your hdd suffer and what config it is.

A mechanical failure on a single drive will cost more then say an electronic problem such as firmware prob.

Once you goto the raid territory, the cost jumps significantly. My company paid in the tens of thousands to recover our main fileserver files since some of the backups were corrupted.

Last time (2006) my office hard disk corrupted, got physical noise, hardware problem.
It was Western Digital hard drive & they suggest we sent it to CBL Data Recovery Technologies (s) Pte Ltd in Singapore via courier.

CBL troubleshooting result:
- Electrical damage to the read/write head assembly.
- Multiple read errors located throughout the platter surface(s).

Cost of repair:
- US$1,600 for 80GB Hard Disk.

It depends on damage, if severe damage and they were able to recover 100% of the data, then its worth it if you think the data in your hdd is worth the money.

Quite a number of time i heard ppl say the data on the dead hdd is priceless, but when they hear the cost of getting it back, its not so priceless anymore.

Beware and better to do more survey 1st before you go to http://www.adrc.com.my.

I did send a hd (160GB) to the company for evaluation before.
But I did not proceed for the recovery bcoz of its price is so expensive (3.5++K) that i feel it is unacceptable and also out of my budget.

Why I sent to this company becoz its evaluation charges on not to proceed for recovery when the data is recoverable is cheaper (95).
Other companies are more expensive (about 250).

I thought the evaluation charges is cheaper then the data recovery charges would be cheaper also. !!!!This is totally WRONG!!!!!

I did some survery before I sent my hd to the company. The range is about 400 - 2.5K(Max) for the hd size 160GB.

This company never give me a max figure for recovering my hd although I keep on asking.
They just said have to depend on my hd conditional. I still past it to them becoz of the thought, cheaper.

After I received the qoute, I totally shock!!! how come it is so expensive compare with the market price.
According to them my hd is just head failure and the data is recoverable.

I asked them for a cheaper price as just the head failure. They just asked me to look for other companies.
They make you to feel that it is worth to pay such amount money as no other companies can do it.

After I told back the hd and past it to another company for evaluation, the result is too many scratches on the disc and not recoverable.

I very disappoint and sad as all my data is gone forever.

Think twice when you want to send your hd to the company for recovery.

Thats how ALL hdd recovery companies operate, they will not give you a final estimate until they have thoroughly check the type of damage that your hdd has suffered and what is the probability that they can recover data and how much of it.

I knew that beforehand so i expected that recovery of data is gonna be expensive. Plus it helps when there is competition since being the sole provider of recovery services means you essentially have a monopoly and can charge as much as you want.

There is no market price on data recovery since each vendor set his/her own price since its a niche industry. plus the enterprise grade software and hardware needed to do both analysis and recovery isnt cheap.

"I thought the evaluation charges is cheaper then the data recovery charges would be cheaper also. !!!!This is totally WRONG!!!!!"

It IS wrong as in YOUR in the wrong for assuming that the evaluation could correlate to cheaper recovery charge.
