The region of your Gamertag will not lock you out from playing region locked games. That is determined by your xbox360's region ie ntsc-u/c, PAL, Ntsc-J.

Couple of things to bear in mind when determining which gamertag to get.

Microsoft points are region locked for redemption purposes. However, once the MS points are on your account, you should be able to buy whatever is visible on your marketplace. DLC is rarely region locked with some notable exceptions such as gears of war which hates Malaysian IP addresses and the latest example being the dead rising 2 prequel. There have also been some arcade titles recently which have been slow to appear on the asian marketplace.

If you don't have access to a credit card, then go for an SG gamertag as most retailers/resellers in malaysia and singapore sell these cards.

If you have a credit card, there are various online outlets where you can get the points from, such as play-asia.com, offgamers.com and so on.

in terms of price, EU is RM164.75 for 4200ms points, US is RM162.63 for 4000ms points 12 months gold is RM168.37 from offgamers.com. For asia play-asia sells ms points at RM133.36 for 3200 ms points and gold subscription is RM152.

Xbox live subs are not supposed to be region locked but I have experienced problems redeeming asian codes on my EU xboxlive account.

ehh... no i was saying that it doesn't matter what region your gamer tag is.. the games are not region locked to your gamertag. I'm using an asian xbox, all my games are asian xbox games, I've never had any problems using any of them using my EU account. edit: my xbox will never be able to play pal games even though i have an EU account, or for that matter ntsc-u/c

Also.. when buying your 12 month gold subscription, please be careful that you choose the correct region to subscribe to.. I remember i couldn't use the 3 month asian gold subs that came with my resident evil 5 xbox360 with my EU account.

I have a SG and a JP GT because some JP games won't let me DLC or anything without using a JP GT. Is that normal? I'm pretty sure I can access US games' DLC with my SG account though unsure.gif

If you log in with your SG GT, you will go through the SG portal and market place, so in terms of marketplace, there are territorial restrictions. I'm sure when you log in with your JP GT you get a different welcome screen and market place. Similarly with me, I go through the UK portal so i get a lot of UKcentric ads, such as sky tv on my 360 and so on.

If you were to log in with a US GT I'm sure you would see that it's totally different to the Singapore portal.

icic.. i understand ur explanation.. it all depend on the console region if i buy us console some asian and pal games can't play on it. is like psn. region lock blueray which some dlc r1 can't be download with r3 blueray. is almost the same. The 12month if u wanna make sure buy it direct from sg? sure can use?
