i saw this in TV3 Buletin Utama news at 8pm today, maybe they will repeat the news in 12am news.. they said MALAYSIA-SINGAPORE just reached the mutual agreement to build the first "shinkansen" project in South East Asia! cool2.gif

“We are looking at speeds of about 280km per hour,” said Ahmad Suhaimi, the deputy lab leader for Greater KL at the ETP.

The 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) as identified under the 10th Malaysia Plan are oil, gas and energy; palm oil; financial services; tourism; business services; electrical and electronics; wholesale and retail; education; healthcare; communications, content and infrastructure; agriculture; and Greater Kuala Lumpur.

Various projects are in the pipeline, including making Malaysia the number one regional hub for oil field services and a global biodiversity hub, more conducive shopping for tourists and revitalising the capital market.

There are also plans to build 141km of new rail lines and a high-speed rail system to connect Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and revitalise the Klang river into a heritage and commercial district.

LPTC To Conduct Feasibility Study On HIGH SPEED RAIL Soon

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- A feasibility study on the High Speed Rail (HSR) linking Kuala Lumpur and Singapore will be carried out soon.

The Land Public Transport Commission (LPTC) said the study will take into consideration the latest progress recorded under the bilateral Points of Agreement (POA), recently between both countries.

LPTC, in a statement said the study will cover wide ranging issues, from the social and economic impact and sustainable technologies, to project governance among others.

"Likewise, the critical success factors will also be in line with the National Key Economic Areas Lab and Economic Transformation Programme," LPTC's Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal said.

He said the total study period, preliminary and detailed, is expected to be between six to 12 months.

after world war II, among the japanese masterplan to revive their economy from very bad atomic bomb attack, is to build fast train in japan connecting poor develop city with advanced city, and also build Tokyo from scratch! .. same like british colonial era, they build railways along "bijih timah" to where they want. LOL laugh.gif

The bombing of Tokyo by the United States Army Air Forces took place during the Pacific campaigns of World War II. The United States mounted a single spectacular raid on Tokyo in April 1942. Strategic bombing and urban area bombing began in 1944 after the long-range B-29 Super Fortress bomber entered service, first employed from China and thereafter the Mariana Islands. B-29 raids from those islands commenced on November 17, 1944 and lasted until August 15, 1945, the day Japan capitulated. Out of numerous air raids on Japan's capital, five of which collectively destroyed over 51% of the metropolis, the so-called Great Tokyo Air Raid of 9-10 March 1945 warrants attention for being one of the most destructive bombing raids in history.

anyway, train is also the easiest way to kill the jews like what Adolf Hitler did before to revive the germany economy to become world power status from a very very bad economy problem.. millions of Germany people no job and unemployment very high, and so much people low in spirit, always do not believe own capability and own german products.. before he, Adolf Hitler become the Fuhrer of Germany

"the jews are the one to blame for germany main economy problem" - Adolf Hitler

yes it is really true germany after that reach peak of their economy with germany industry blooming everywhere.. in year around 1939, there is no more unemployment problem in germany.. with germany reached it superpower status, Adolf Hitler just made his promise to Germany people come true.. but i think the way he do it to achieve his target is morally wrong.

anyway the news said, it need "subsidy" from government to survive for its initial stage.

usually fast train, shinkansen in japan only abit cheaper than aeroplane fares.. people will think i want to fly or i want to ride a train.

but in my opinion, the large bulk of cargo still prefer train service because it is more cheaper and can carry more capacity than aeroplane.

One big advantage of HSR.

You depart from city centre, you arrive at city centre.

Also, trains are more frequent than flights.

If you have business meeting on short notice, HSR is more attractive option.

Cargo can use KTM line.

HSR competes against air.

Not bus or expressway (private vehicles).

We know that KL-Singapore flight route is busy. Having HSR is an attractive proposition.

i think it have something to do with MELAKA-DUMAI (MALAYSIA-SUMATERA) bridge project

MALAYSIA-INDONESIA BRIDGE MASTERPLAN REVEALED..?, masterplan to weakening Singapore Port?
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1139410

the news said the fast train will only stop at Melaka and Negeri Sembilan..

Singapore have no option but to agree on this, in case Thailand finished potong Segenting Kra, the Singapore economy can still survive and the port can still active.. somemore when the MELAKA-DUMAI (MALAYSIA-SUMATERA) bridge project finish, i think less ship will come from north using Malacca straits.. a big disadvantage to singapore port, by just that bridge plan.. singapore port have good facility

sumatera region will benefit from this project also.. if Malaysia-Indonesia-Singapore agree to use the visa free rule (just like european did) in their euro zone.. a new economy block will rise from the east of this world.. but as always, just i wrote before attitude problem will always be the main problem to fail any economic policy.

there is a reason why DUMAI

Dumai is well known as "kota minyak" (city of oil) whether petroleum oil or palm oil, they are very rich!

that's why China backing the project!

lambang dumai tu sendiri pakai lambang tangki minyak

KL - Singapore has more passengers and highly populated than KL - Penang.

That is why it is given higher priority than KL-Penang.

For example, between KL and Singapore, you have more major towns and cities such as Seremban, Melaka, Muar, Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru (the second largest city in Malaysia), before reaching Singapore, which has 5 million people.

Compare that to KL - Penang, you only have major city such as Ipoh (Kinta Valley population is just under a million) and important town such as Taiping, before reaching Penang.

Another thing is there higher demand than KL-Penang. Take a look at the number of flights and buses that ply on KL-SG route.

With these considerations, it is more sensible to KL-SG first.

That's true. Even the flights and buses for KL-SG, the demand very high.

That's why KL-SG corridor, you can argue that it can generate higher economic spin off than KL - Penang corridor.

How can you expect the north to florish when the infra is not there yet?

There are more people coming in from SG because it's cheaper for them to spend here. That's why you get people coming in here. I agree with them bringing in money but what about the locals???

It is not as if the locals do not benefit, because there are intermediate stations in Malaysia such as KLIA, Seremban, Ayer Keroh (Malacca), Muar, Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru/Iskandar region.

Think of it, people from these towns and cities in Malaysia as i listed above can benefit from the line too.

Alternatively, the north has Ipoh-Padang Besar project which is already under construction, and at the moment, the progress rate has reached over 50%.

It can bring significant economic spinoffs if you look closer.

You can see why China has building over 12,000 km of HSR lines.
