anyway the news said, it need "subsidy" from government to survive for its initial stage.

usually fast train, shinkansen in japan only abit cheaper than aeroplane fares.. people will think i want to fly or i want to ride a train.

but in my opinion, the large bulk of cargo still prefer train service because it is more cheaper and can carry more capacity than aeroplane.

One big advantage of HSR.

You depart from city centre, you arrive at city centre.

Also, trains are more frequent than flights.

If you have business meeting on short notice, HSR is more attractive option.

Cargo can use KTM line.

HSR competes against air.

Not bus or expressway (private vehicles).

We know that KL-Singapore flight route is busy. Having HSR is an attractive proposition.

i think it have something to do with MELAKA-DUMAI (MALAYSIA-SUMATERA) bridge project

MALAYSIA-INDONESIA BRIDGE MASTERPLAN REVEALED..?, masterplan to weakening Singapore Port?
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1139410

the news said the fast train will only stop at Melaka and Negeri Sembilan..

Singapore have no option but to agree on this, in case Thailand finished potong Segenting Kra, the Singapore economy can still survive and the port can still active.. somemore when the MELAKA-DUMAI (MALAYSIA-SUMATERA) bridge project finish, i think less ship will come from north using Malacca straits.. a big disadvantage to singapore port, by just that bridge plan.. singapore port have good facility

sumatera region will benefit from this project also.. if Malaysia-Indonesia-Singapore agree to use the visa free rule (just like european did) in their euro zone.. a new economy block will rise from the east of this world.. but as always, just i wrote before attitude problem will always be the main problem to fail any economic policy.

there is a reason why DUMAI

Dumai is well known as "kota minyak" (city of oil) whether petroleum oil or palm oil, they are very rich!

that's why China backing the project!

lambang dumai tu sendiri pakai lambang tangki minyak

Major cities were air raided by US in Japan.

However, you are right that only Nagasaki and Hiroshima hit by atom bomb.
