2 days ago, I rev then tiba-tiba battery light on. When I check my voltmeter in car, it shows 11.9. I rev more, then the voltage overshoot to 15V. After that the alternator no longer work. Dead.

I went to workshop, they recommend changing to a reconditioned alternator. Paid RM205 including workmanship. WTFBBQSAUCE! One day later, that recon alternator also died. The workshop offered to replace the alternator with no charge today.

While it appears to be still working, I still feel that this alternator is not going to last for many days too. When I turn on my ICU and lights, the voltage drop near 12V.

Why is it so difficult to get a working alternator? I brought home my original alternator though. Don't know what can I do with it sad.gif

p.s. I had interesting discovery. My Wira horn won't work when alternator not charging battery even if the engine is running. The weird behaving horn is even better indicator than the warning light and voltmeter.

Did you try a higher amp alternator?
*
I didn't know there's different rating. If i knew, I would have got the higher amp alternator. How to identify?

Let me share a story with you..

When I bought my Wira 1 year + ago, the alternator is died..I go workshop and replace it - 65V..cost me RM120..After 1 month, the alternator died again..I replace it again with 75V..use until now no problem..  thumbup.gif

I bought mine RM180 without workmanship. Seems expensive. How much you bought your 75A alternator?

Nvm, I just turn on my ICU, the alternator is likely to die. Then I claim again.

I had this problem once. I was driving at about 40km/h then I realise there is a speed bump. I jammed into the brakes. The next moment I know, the engine stalled and a restart is required. Fortunately there is no car behind.

I am using Auto gearbox, so user error with clutch is negligible.

Lol. No idea how it happened. I tried jamming the brakes nowadays but the engine did not stall so far.

What causes the engine unable to rev all the way up to redline? My carburettor 4G15 redline is 6k but it would only reach up to 5.5k at all gears. (automatic transmission)

Kurang ummph when it change gear so fast. Engine losing compression?

I was in rush yesterday. I had to floor the pedal the whole time. Last time I remember I had rev up to 6k ngam ngam. Unless it is RON95 that made the difference.

Even my top speed is just ~155km/h@5500RPM now.

I used to inject water into the engine. Got better initial torque. With water, I can finally wheel spin on my auto transmission wira.

Really depends which type of engine you have. Some have inlet at intake manifold (best), some doesn't. Some uses carburettor, like my car, then have to look for a vacuum line that works better without hydrolocking the engine.

My friend's wira have inlet at intake manifold. When water is injected, the water atomizes and the energy the water uses, chilled the intake manifold to be so cold until there is water condensation.

Anyway, doesn't really save petrol. Quite troublesome to refill water in long journey drive. A lot of hydrolocking the engine when experimenting. I'm lucky that I haven't killed the engine by pouring a cup of water into the intake.

Aiyah, early in the morning found that the radiator cap already broken. =.=

I think I need a top overhaul, the temperatures are inconsistent, sometimes very high after some rev. Not sure is it the high temperature broke the cap also. LOL

It was a very lengthy problem that cannot be fixed. Flushed radiator several times, changed different coolant, changed water pump, thermostat/fan and even changed to new radiator. Once in a while temperature still shoot near red. The only thing not tried is top overhaul.

QUOTE(kyheng @ Mar 3 2011, 09:29 AM)
Don't know why people like to do overhaul when there's small problem....
*
The car is already 14 years old. Regularly maintained but recently acting up. The cost for small small repair is enough for a overhaul one shot actually. Instead of wasting more time and inducing more damage, I think a top overhaul is a good choice.
