During a fiercely hot summer in Sotoba, a peaceful and quiet village with a population of 1300 people, a series of bizarre deaths begin to occur. At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. Hospital dean Toshio Ozaki cannot figure out the cause of death in the deceased, initially suspecting an epidemic. As investigations continue between the hospital staff and the residents, it turns out that the village is being attacked by vampires.
Sotobamura is a small village with around 1300 residents; so small the village isn't even connected to a single highway. An isolated village in which old customs, such as the burial of the dead, are still practiced. One day, the bodies of three people are found dead. Although Ozaki Toshio, the village's lone doctor, feels uncertain, he treats the deaths as a normal occurrence. However, in the days following, the villagers start to die one after the other. Is this mere coincidence, an epidemic, or something else entirely...errorsource
The story takes place in a small and what appears to be a peaceful village called, Sotoba. However, this is no ordinary village. Death seems to be tormenting the village and it is a common thing in Sotoba. Natsuno Yuuki, a new resident in Sotoba, hates the village and wants to move back to the city. Seriously this is the best series out of the summer season IMO.
The development is quite slow at the beginning. But after about 7-8 episodes, it takes a very good well turn. After that, almost every episode got me sitting on the edge of my seat. And the recent ones tend to end with cliffhanger, and waiting another week is a pain.
Am sad that this series is being overlooked.

^I'm not reading the manga but I guess the anime delivers well, even the creepy atmosphere.
I knew Toshio had something up his sleeve but his intelligent plan still got me amazed. His 'just as planned' face is epic.
And I love Natsuno's and Megumi's attire more and more. Good sense of fashion there.

Wow it's finally at its climax.

while i have been spoilered on how yoshie dies, but isnt that too fast in the anime?
this is heading to zetsubou everyone dies, altho few key chara still missing from now and then. ie natsuno, megumi, akira and his sister

I think next week's finale will be about ToshioxSeishin and NatsunixMegumi confrontations judging from the preview. Akira and Kaori's fate most probably will be revealed in Ep 20.5 and 21.5 which will be included in BD and DVD. |

in my opinion ep 21 was the best it had a lot of blood splattering all over the place and we get to know that everyone had gone insane killing everyone be it shiky or not shiky (aka the thing trusting no one and just burning them with flame thrower). Can wait for the next episode

I have never liked her, but when her face was smashed by the tractor, I cried out loud. But after a while, I don't feel pity at all. And Natsuno Why are you so silly? I would like to see him survive but at least he did something heroic at the end. But I'm still dissatisfied at his little screen-time in the 2nd half of the series. And I like it when he looked at Tohru and Ritchan's bodies. And the WORST thing is Sunako and Seishin actually live on  Especially that Seishin, I just hate him more and more. Cut your stupid poetic crap and just go kill yourself since you hate yourself so much. Don't pull people down together with you to the hell. Phew, at least Kaori and Akira were still alive. That's the thing I'm glad of. And the epilogue is utter pointless. But still this is the best, if not, the second best anime of 2010 IMO. I really like the creepy vibe in the 1st half of the series, and the tackle on moral issue in the 2nd half. |

This anime is one of the best i've watched so far, it shows how cruel we can be when it comes to survival. The vampires needed blood to survive, so they had no choice but to attack the villagers. The humans wanted to survive too, that's why they've been hunting down those vamps. It's a really heartbreaking anime, although it's about vampires, this anime was unique in it's own way. The vampires had feelings too and were trying to ssurvive, if only the humans and vampires made a deal, like maybe the humans could give out some blood every week or something. But the humans and vampires feared each other so much that they resort to killing each other.
