QUOTE(kyosho @ Oct 13 2010, 03:32 AM)
for beginner, u shoot much better photo than me.
iso, aperture and shutter speed are the 3-brother that u have to master if u are into manual mode.
play around with spot focusing next, and spot metering to have a nice picture taken especially when the light is tricky
get a flashgun and try it out, personal choice, SB900, but now SB700 is quite reasonable.
go on with f2.8 fixed aperture lens, like those from Sigma or Tamron, of course original Nikon is the best.

many newbies are being mislead in such a way, thinking that f2.8 lenses are the way to go in photography.

i'd take the nikkor 16-85 over the 17-55 or those Tamron / Sigma without a thought, unless i suddenly for some unknown reason need f2.8 so badly.

1. holiday photo meaning it's good for memory, nothing artistic nor beautiful. it's looks like what the average person snap from their phone / compacts when going on holiday.

2. a lot of newbies are too focused on bokeh that they forget about the MORE important bits of photography. just attend any of the talk by experienced photographers, see how often they talk about nonsense like "so creamy the bokeh".

people talk about distraction, even if bokeh nice or not nice people focus on whether it's a distraction or not. not how creamy it is.
