Buy it buy it! The new firmware update is tremendous. And Fuji weren't kidding when they said this camera will make you fall in love with photography. I always take the camera with me everywhere I go.
*
but then the problem is , i dont think someone who dont love photography will ever spend RM3k+ to get a camera lol

i'm not really into shooting photo before i got my hand on x100 in fact i kinda hate it because it always delay us when we travel in a group. but thing changed when i first saw the x100. the retro look really caught my eye and its even deeper after i gone through the reviews on the net. so in the end my first camera goes to x100.
*
so what is your first emotion when you first get the camera?
what do you think after using it , haha .
too excited to get my x100 later

First its kinda big than I saw before maybe its because I din really get to hold n feel it for long. Of course the feeling is very good n I can't describe it with words. Other than its performance, I believe it did serve well as a fashion accessory too. I think with a x100 on ur hand surely can outstand whoever next to u with a big dslr.
*
yup , i totally agree with that , before i decide to get x100 , i was actually considering gf3 and alots of other model .
x100 never fail to hold my attention for at least a minute every single time i walk pass the camera shop nearby my house .
i remember x100 were still selling around RM3880 few months ago , to be honest its a lil too pricy for me .
when i almost give up to get x100 , i saw a seller in lowyat selling the full new set @ only RM3200 with leather case and memory card.
i then decided to sell of my Samsung NX100 and get my favourite compact king the FUJI X100 biggrin.gif

Congrats on your new purchase. For me, I read the reviews, and I was really interested. My old camera was a 5 year old Powershot G7. I had an upcoming Langkawi trip, so I thought I should get a new camera. I never tried it in hand, and I just went to YL, and tried holding it in my hands. The weight and solid feel really got to me. I purchased it that day. Hahaha. Anyway, I see your leather case is 3rd party too yeah, I guess that's how they offset the price.

Here's a random pic, while servicing my car aircond.

hi, may i know how do you differentiate between the truly original and the third party case?
as my seller told me , that was a orignal from fujifilm . hmm.gif

user posted image

btw , do you use the original chain ring come with the leather case for the strap ? i've tried again and again to chain it on my camera body but its just to hard for me to 'open it's mouth' . lol, so at last i gave up using it and i took the original strap's ring to replace with it.

here are some of my random testing photo .

The X100 font on the strap and case doesn't match the X100 on the box. You can see from your pic. I think thats how to differentiate.
*
thanks for your information bro , however 3200 with a oem leather case, 8gb , screen protector and a card reader , seriously its worth .

btw , have you get the lens hood and extra battery ?

i am considering to get a JJC lens hood which cost me around rm130 and a extra oem battery RM60.

to be honest , i dont think the manual focus of x100 a useful function compare to DSLR or some of the model of mirrorless model.
i need to turn soo many round of the ring to get from infinity to the minimum focus range .

i mean like its okay if you're just using it sometime for fun .but not daily usage like how i can use on my dslr.

so i think i will prefer the auto focus mode more.

Added on March 25, 2012, 4:54 amHey guys, I found an error in x100

Here how it's begin

Set manual focus, p mode, view mode (eye sensor- ovf)
Put you eye to viewfinder (hold your eye in viewfinder)
Now, press and hold AF button, assign focus point to most right edge.
Press AEL/AFL........ Then the x100 will freeze.

Anyone can help try out. Is it just happen to me or is bug of x100 sad.gif
*
i've tried it as well , same things happen to my x100 so its either the bug of the firmware or smth , hope fuji will fix it with a firmware update real soon .

Saw tons of those soft release in Hong Kong last week... selling at only HKD60-70 (about RM20-30). Made of brass... bought a plain red for my Fuji X100. smile.gif Some even have "Leica" printed on top.
*
yeah , i love to shop for camera in hong kong too , they have ton of new model and accessories which you rarely see in msia.

Accessories, yes. But X100 is much more expensive here than Malaysia. Selling at HKD10,000+ (about RM4000). Not sure why recently, price for most camera in HK are more expensive than M'sia.
*
actually u need to go to Apliu Street , in cantonese there's a duck word in its name only you can get a cheaper price of eletronic product including camera.
last time i went there i stay in wong kok , there got plenty of camera shop and i was looking for a D80kits and it actually selling @RM4000 there in hk when malaysia is selling it @RM3600 only . soo in conclusion , i agree that its more expensive than msia but they have much more accessories than what we have in malaysia . biggrin.gif

*
haha , dont worry about the warranty la . once you come bak to msia unless its a international warranty or else even u buy original product which provide only national warranty also also no use. unless you willing to go bak to hk just to claim the warranty . ahha

Hahahahaha..... Agreed.

I stopped using my China soft release already. Nice to use but it keeps working itself loose. If I ever get another is probably pay a little more for a branded soft release like the Abrahamsson soft release (am also not sure if this one would not work itself loose either so that's why haven't bought another one).

Dunno about how well the ladybird one would fit but I'm a bit wary of buying another 'cheap' (or should I say unbranded) soft release.
*
try wrap a lil of the white tape which you use on pipe on the screw of your soft release and your self-loose problem wiill be solved.

I have intention to jump ship from DSLR to this lovely camera smile.gif
Is it worth to buy?
DSLR just too big and inconvenient when shooting outdoor or having vacation sad.gif
*
i brought this for about a weeks edi , let me tell you what is the good and bad .
good :
1.you will love its amazing photo quality and high iso performance for sure , my NIKON D80 cant even beat fuji iso performance , 1600 D80 start to wave white flag but fujifilm still provide a clean image somehow counted as no noise at all.
2.it's retro outlook will never fail to help you attract girl's attention , not only girl actually . Lol
3. Macro mode which you will never find in most of the kit lens of dslr .or you will need to get a lens which equal or even more expensive than x100 to get that function on your dslr.
4.hybrid view finder , seriously love it .

bad:
1.if you're shooting during your trip you will need to non stop switching the shooting moide from macro to normal as the minimum focus distance in normal mode are 80cm.
2.F2.0 not so useful in macro mode as it affect the image quality , you'll see some shadow of your object if you shot in macro mode with greater than f4.0 .
3.i just dont understand why they dun wanna set the auto iso control iinto the quick fn button list but have to go all the way into menu list to turn auto iso on and off?
4. battery consumption , alots of ppl saying its consume battery very fast , but i am not so sure as i havent even finish my battery once since the day i bought x100.

conslusion , if your budget allow , you can actually have both dslr and fuji x100, you'll love fuji for sure , but i believe dslr are still uselful to you as it's ability of changing lens .

and i will love x100 even more if it can have a quick access menu like how the x-pro1 does. laugh.gif

IQ is indeed amazing. ISO3200 still looks great!

To get around the macro nonsense I usually use MF and set the AEL/AFL to on/off and use that to focus. That way no need to switch to separate macro mode. f2.8 still ok for macro but recommended based on lens test is actually f8 for macro. I don't really bother with the theory and find f2.8 perfectly acceptable to me.

At first I also used Auto ISO and was frustrated by how difficult it was to turn on and off. Am waiting for the firmware update that puts the option on the fn ISO control.

BUT.... you often hear photogs say that shooting with the X100 makes you think more about the process of shooting and for me I found it to be the case. I don't use auto ISO any longer and find it much better to manually set ISO from the fn button. With the firmware update I have the RAW set to toggle the ND filter which is awesome!

I absolutely love my X100. It does have its flaws but you soon 'learn' how to use it. The IQ more than makes up for the other quirks.

BUY, BUY, BUY!!!
*
thanks for you technique information about using mf , i didnt realise we can actually use it that way .
i've tried that way just now, seriously need to use evf for macro shooting if not what you see from the ovf will be a big diff from what you shoot.
Actually according to fujifilm itself , they recommend to use f4 onward for macro shooting. but i find f2.8 quite acceptable too.

I have always used the MF to bypass the need to press the macro button. Normally I set my AEL/AFL to lock just the focus then I can adjust exposure separately.

I find that I use the EVF most of the time as it is 100% accurate and also any changes to f or exp can be seen on the screen. Maybe been brought up in the digital generation. The OVF is beautiful but can't seem to trust taking the pic without knowing what it looks like first.

Definitely EVF is a must for macro due to parallax error.

dpreview did some test on the X100 lens. Quite interesting to find how well it performs at certain apertures. The one on f8 for macro is here:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmx100/16
*
i dont know if you notice but our fren has mentioned about it few post before this , in mf mode , there's a bug which cause the camera to hang when you try to AEL focus at the right edge . so no matter how we still need to wait for a firmware update to make x100 work 100% perfect smile.gif

i shoot in JPEG mainly btw.
