Our midfield is sputtering off and on again, just like the whole of last season. Maybe Fergie should consider a surprise move for Kesuke Honda. Not much to lose, maybe turn out to be a revelation. If not, 1/2 season later, sell him to some mid-table club.

Most fouled player in the World Cup. Arsene Wenger player of the tournament. He looks pretty decent physical-wise (but will still need to buff up for EPL standard).

based on rooney's inconsistent form, I am not too worried if rooney goes next summer.

It has always been more about his *potential* that he can bring (young player, bla bla, more to come, bla bla), but I must say, except for 6 months last year, he hasn't really lived up fully to his potential... yet.

we looked like a mid-table team in the 2nd half. How in the world did that happen... not the first time the team performance fade as the match progresses. so fustrating.

grinding out results will be difficult as the team is somehow not able to keep control of the game as it progresses.

I don't blame the defence too much last few games. But it's strange how we always let the other team get back into the game. For me, it's our defence, midfield, and forwards all breaking down at the same time, not any one area.

if these media reports are true then Rooney is being an ass.

For all the nurturing, support and protection fergie has provided him, to think he knows better than the manager all of a sudden is...

Like I said, rooney has always been about "future potential" rather than his actual performances. Only last season did he finally showed clear signs of how good he can be (on a consistent enough basis), and then now with his dip of form comes all this hooha.

Man utd will miss him, no doubt. But he's not irreplacable either.

QUOTE(headhunter7 @ Oct 18 2010, 10:52 PM)
Rooney's a striker. And what do strikers need? Passes from midfields, in which usually, the midfields dictate the game.

What can we learn from other teams? They have strong midfielders. Or even the latest merseyside derby, of which the blue side had a strong midfield , which glued together and played well.

Our midfield, in particular, the centre, as I have always said, isn't all that strong as of late.

We need a great central midfielder who can boss the game, and and an attacking midfielder who can give passes which breaks the toughest of defences.

Nani is a good midfielder, but he plays off the right striker, and would be considered as a right winger, who plays like,a striker.

Consider the 98/99 team, we had at least 3 central midfielders who can play the game whatever they wanted to. And to look into this current side, we're jam packed with strikers.

Rooney, Chicarito, Berbatov , Owen,Macheda , Nani.

All of which, do not have a source of passes of which they can run into.

Another thing would be aggression, I don't think the other teams come to old trafford, or play against us, knowingly that we have a fierce squad. (Cantona, Keane ). The Premiership tremble having both of them lifting it's trophy, what else the teams in them.

If you can see, Rooney + Berba always have to come deep into the field, needing the ball, which they should have been making great runs into the defense. And why is that? Because of the lack of midfielders.

Scholesy is coming of age, and please, I do not rate Fletcher any higher than Macheda is. Carrick needs to find his old boots, and Hargo needs to stop dating the nurse.

i dunno ler, but doesnt SAF prefer buying players which are just under the A-list... or hidden gems... he doesnt often go for high profile, top of their game, expensive players.

On that note, doesn't kosuike honda seem like he can provide some kind of ingenuity, speed and a pretty good free kick. At he's fairly cheap, 15 mill pounds, I think about the same price as what we paid for Ando. Wenger can't be that wrong in terms of rating him so highly can he?

anderson is a dissapointment. He's got good acceleration, appears strong enough to brush off players, but then he doesn't seem to have a very good footballing brain.

As the game wears on he dissapears. Bad positioning, bad playmaking.

What do u guys think about this:

For me, Rooney is the type of player who needs to have that fire boiling inside him. The lack of this fire recently may be due to more than just his personal life problems. It may be that he is just growing up. His temperament becomes more sedate, and it effects his play but he doesn't know why. See his World Cup performances for example.

You see, rooney is not the best at holding up the ball, he's not the quickest in turns, he's not the sharpest in passes, he's not the best at running past defences. But he always made up for it with his never say die attitude, which results in the occasional brilliant move from himself. In short, he's brilliant because he tries harder than anyone else on the field. But other times, his skill looks quite ordinary.

If that is the case, Rooney might never recapture what he once had, nor be able to live up to his potential.

I want to see Man Utd hammer bursaspor. Berbatov and Hernandez a brace each. Rooney one penalty after coming on as a substitute. tongue.gif
