if you go to the wiki page it have the list of capability it is shutdown due to power limitation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyager_1

QUOTE
Year     End of specific capabilities as a result of the available electrical power limitations
2007     Termination of plasma subsystem (PLS)
2008     Power off Planetary Radio Astronomy Experiment (PRA)
2010     Terminate scan platform and Ultraviolet spectrometer (UVS) observations
2015     Termination of Data Tape Recorder (DTR) operations (limited by ability to capture 1.4 kbit/s data using a 70 m/34 m antenna array. This is the minimum rate at which the DTS can read-out data.)
2016 approx     Termination of gyroscopic operations
2020     Start shutdown of science instruments (as of 2008-03-18 the order is undecided but the Low-Energy Charged Particles, Cosmic Ray Subsystem, Magnetometer, and Plasma Wave Subsystem instruments are expected to still be operating)
2025 or after     Can no longer power any single instrument.

it is using Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators which is a nuclear battery, you wont want to power you handphone with those bad boy. even though a battery that will last decades is tempting laugh.gif

My goodness, the last time i remember talking about Voyager1 or 2 was in school. I found it fascinating to think that a spacecraft was flying though space sending information back to earth (of course in the head of a young girl that 'information' was obviously pictures as if they were taken out of a low flying airplane window showing trees and such on distant planets) and would keep going for (what seemed like) forever.

Makes me quite sad to think of it slowly shutting down bit by bit. I think i get a little too emotionally attached to technology (and subsequently tend to anthropomorphize excessively).

Interesting thought though, did a quick search and didn't find a real answer from what i could tell: Is Voyager1 still communicating with earth and if so how?
I would assume radio waves, but wouldn't there be a huge (like years and years long) lag with it being so far away?

there is 15 hours delay in transmition but it is still receiving command and tranferring back data.

Just wondering why they didint send out more probe like voyager ? its already 33 years old.. i think they should send a new 1 with more advanced technologies and instrument to compensate the dying out of voyager.. dont you think so?
*
nasa and other have plan for many more probe but dont see any that are to go outside the solar system lile voyager. maybe malaysia can lauch our own probe, then we will be doing to real space exploration.

one thing that make most sense to repeat this is the current communication technology allow for much more data to be transmitted, we can high resolution sensor and camera to study the outer solar system.

as if NASA are willing to post their latest and top secret finding on wiki

there is much more information on nasa and esa own website, nasa do share their finding with the world,

Why people always believe Aliens must crash landing to earth, when we found it, or only we can find it?
They cannot come here, and waving their hand to us?
They cannot send probe just like we human kind send voyager to Titan?
They must land in US, so that secret can be kept?

What is the odd chance of alien spaceship landed in US alone, and not other countries so that secret can be kept by US gov/NASA?

Aliens can a worm type living underneath of Titan ocean, Aliens also can be microscopic organism that living underground. Aliens can also have 8 eyes so that can easily see all the dimension, up down, back, and forth without turning the head.
I had difficulty believe Alien is the same type/structure of human kind, as what many speculate.

Maybe announce that we human kind actually is Aliens. Remember there is no human kind before the dinasour ages, so we could be the Aliens concur this earth.  biggrin.gif

most difficult to believe is the alien with ship advance enough to do intergalatic space travel would crash when landing on earth.

I also wonder how will any life-form be able to play the record it is carrying?

if it was a life form with the ability to visit earth it will be able to figure it out.

friend... infact, I do not like the word ALIEN.. it sounds like we human are the reference point of the universe. As a matter of fact, they are just like us... satient beings.... living organism.

a guy once asked an astrobiologist "what makes you think aliens need oxygen and need water to survive?"

he answered "well, I dont really know, like physics and astrophysics, IF the laws of physics is valid on earth and our solar system, I would  ASSUME it is valid as where too "

there are life form on earth it self that does not depend on oxygen
