depends on the version/quality and load of your current setup. it's not that pricy. would have to check my bills for a real number. 1phs lighting protection only was below 500RM i think. well worth it. i also bought the protection for the phone line - saved me twice already.

Since you are into this, do consider about installing a self-recoverable circuit breaker too, ie the circuit-greaker will reconnect the circuit on its own after a trip, without needing a person to go switch it back on again.
Pretty useful, especially if there was a trip in the middle of the night, or when there is nobody around in the house. The power supply will reconnect back on its own after a trip. |

Hi PJusa,Is this including planting a long 'Needle' deep down into the home compound? Or does it involve installation of other equipments at home connecting to/from the DB box? |

Hansel,
if you do that, you can also just remove the ELCB. they are crap here anyway (100mA that is), to fry a human all you need is 30mA so your ELC should trip lower. albeit lightning makes that an impossible task here i reckon. also: max autoreset on ELCB is 3 times, then you need to do it yourself. but it still beats its purpose. numbertwo, the "needle" (copper rod) was charged seperately but they did that too. you need to have a very good earth to install a whole house lightning arrestor in the DB. but its worth the investment. saved the house's electric stuff the day before yesterday. a neighbour up the road not so lucky. lost a PC and some other stuff. i think in malaysia its worth spending the money on those things. |
