Just got back from sg. Wang disappointed. Was there earlier today before launch & was told by a samsung guy there, you can buy the unit only after 5pm. The launch was scheduled for 4pm. when i checked back again closer to 5pm, was told that you can't buy any units today. According to a guy from samsung who seemed to know a bit, he said originally they were gonna sell some units at the launch but because the Gov. has changed the tax structure for mobile phones, they couldn't sell any today. The units are sitting in the warehouse from last week.

He also confirmed, the pricing, if buy outright RM2699, if on 1yr plan then i think he said RM1859 or RM1849. If on a 2yr plan then its RM100 cheaper. It does not matter what plan you take, 500mb, 1.5gb or 3gb.

The units will be available on 25th Oct in limited quantities at 4 major Maxis outlets. KLCC, Pavillion, TTDI & Sunway Piramid. On 29th Oct it will be available at all Maxis outlets.

nice specs but without android Market on board??meh...

You are right about that. I'm sure someone will come up with a hack for it soon after. In the interim you can always download the apps you want from an android phone & then have it installed on the tablet. Just a slight inconvinience i guess. Can you imagine using google earth on a large screen? Gotta be awesome!

HP, Asus and MSI they are all drop win7 and use Android instead on their tablets..correct me if I am wrong..

Win7 is great but i personally believe that its not developed for tablets. IMHO i think it needs to be stripped down by removing unnecessary features that bloat the Os. The other thing that hampers it, is the battery life. I don't believe that any win7 tablet has been able to boast a batt life longer than 5hrs. This leads me to believe that the OS is to blame for being too resource intensive.

Someone also mentioned that froyo(2.2) is not optimised for larger screens & currently that is true. I think the Android platform is perfect for tablet computing as it is light & fast. Its now all up to the apps makers to come out with the alternative to suit larger screens.

My take on a tablet, something light & fast, doesn't take forever to boot & last a good 8 to 10 hrs on a single charge. Its what i would take with me on a holiday instead of a laptop as i would just want to read emails, surf the net & use a little multimedia functions. But hey... its only my take on it.. smile.gif

The guy at the launch was the one who told me it would be limited quantity for the sale on the 25th at those 4 place i mentioned. Then again it might be a ploy. He did say though, you're best bet would be to get it at Sunway Piramid, as he said historically previous launches always showed that Maxis Sunway encountered the least crowd as opposed to KLCC & Pavillion.

So there you go ...... don't shoot me, i'm just the messenger.

Hi folks,

Anyone got info on whether any accessories are available for the tab? Anyone can confirm if low yat is selling Tab accessories? I'm trying not to use online purchase for them if i can get them locally.

so far the tab has performed wonderfully for what i need, which browsing the net & checking emails.I ditched the standard browser & am using dolphinHD browser. Surfing websites are a breeze & smooth.

Haven't used the camera function or video calling as haven't had a need for it as yet. Using the youtube app to watch videos is smooth & clear. google earth is excellent as well. Will try & give a more in depth review of the Tab when i get more time to although i'm no whiz. So far its been positive for me

How's the battery life? Some bad reviews over it i heard
*
With regards to battery life, its too early too tell. at present i can get about 5hrs of continous surfing. From my understanding, your mobile battery will reach peak conditioning after about 2 - 3 weeks with proper charging cycles. I believe there some discussion on phone battery life on XDA & some people who seem to be in the know had mentioned this. As with both my HTC Legend & Desire, i found that following this method, my batt life went from about20hrs ++ initially with light usage, to about 2.5 - 3 days after 3 weeks.

what's the method? share out here wink.gif

Its nothing really special, just make sure your batt is low where it tells you to plug in charger & then only charge. Do not unplug till its fully charged. For me in the initial weeks of charging, when it says fully charged, i just leave plugged for an additional hour. It seemed to work like a charm after. Whatever you do, try & refrain from doing partial charging. Hope this helps.

cheers

Is it possible to use bluetooth keyboard with the tab??
*
I can confirm that my think outside stowaway BT keyboard i bought almost 7yrs ago is working fine with my GTab. I have now done 3 full charges so far & it on average use, about 4hrs of surfing & checking emails i got going for 46hrs before it ask me to charge. Obviously i keep my 3G & Wifi off when not surfing or checking mail. I'm expecting in a couple of weeks once the battery is well conditioned to get about at least 8hrs non-stop surfing. Loving it big time thumbup.gif

cheers
