Guys, how's the voice call quality?

I'm previously attached myself to Dell Streak cos I was thinking that 5" should be the maximum size to be pocketable already and besides, my past experience with Samsung devices had given me hell lot of nightmares already so I dun really trust Samsung device ever since.

But this Tab is really tempting for web-browsing and ebooks reading...
Or even throw in Comics into Memory Card and read them!

So I'm kinda swaying between Dell Streak and Tab...
Therefore, for those who has compared Streak and Tab, can you please give me some guidance on which one is better in overall experience?
Let aside the OS difference since Streak has already got its Froyo already...

My main concerns are:
Portability
Battery Consumption
Voice call quality
Custom ROM possibilites

any reply is much appreciated smile.gif

thanks!

Seems just mediocre for battery performance hmm.gif

Still playing with it right now.

Where you stayed? How long the users need to wait if order?
You get it straight when you order it? How long can it survive on battery? How long is the warranty offered by Maxis?
*
actually nope. I went to Miri Maxis Centre last week to ask for the Tab then they told me out of stock and will be in-stock by this week. So I asked her to gimme a call when it arrived. Until yesterday they didn't call me up so I decided to pay them a visit to check the stock myself, and luckily enough to grab an unit smile.gif

well, last night I was playing continuous (music, surfing, ebook, download apps etc)around from around 6pm until nearly 11pm and the battery ran down to 11% or so... didn't check the initial battery left so can't really comment much about it yet... will update with this thing... Currently trying to do several complete cycle charge to optimize the battery performance first...

The warranty is offered 1 year I guess? IIRC, the warranty offered by Maxis is based on your contract.. 1 year contract = 1 year warranty.

Man, I must say that this device is really shiok for Ebook reading and surfing!!!
By the way, it is pocketable to my front pocket (office pant) and rear only for jeans...
haven't try it out on my basketball short pants yet

if i buy the tab from china, malaysia can use??
*
dunno, i maybe wrong but China doesn't have official release of the Tab isn't it? And their price seems to be much higher than Malaysia... simply hits RMB 6999 (China Ren Min Bi)

besides, most of them in China are importing the Tab from UK or US... there are even some who are unaware of the "No-phone" capability Canada-set and import it at last to be frustrated. My suggestion will be getting either from Maxis or Singapore smile.gif

Okay. Just a little update for day 1 usage. Overall the device is awesome. But the battery is really just mediocre. Just slightly better that iphone 4

frankly speaking I'm kinda disappointed with this battery performance. However other than this issue so far I must say that I'm really enjoying this device. Hopefully throughout a couple of complete cycle charging and discharging. The batter will be optimized and last much longer.

Sent front my Tab;-)

Anyone recommend best app for :-

1) Surfing internet
2) Reading ebooks eg. pdf or cbr
3) Playing movies eg. avi
4) Viewing photos/slideshow
*
here's what I use:

1) Dolphine HD (so much better than Tab's built in browser!)
2) Default (Thinkfree is doing good enough for me already)
3) Rock Player (can play RMVB)
4) Default (not fan of flashy photo viewing or something... so didn't really take time to search for this apps)

actually in my case, I'm using Celcom as my primary SIM card... but I want this Tab so bad hence ended up signed up with Maxis to get the Tab.

As for the card that I getting from Maxis? I'm gonna plug it into my TP2 and use it as my secondary phone with data connection turned off. Maybe occasionally use the data once in a while...

Guys, just wanna ask if you experience a problem where the 3g or edge data connection just lost without any reason and can't be re-connected unless restart the Tab?
I think I've seen this issue mentioned somewhere in the thread but couldn't find it back.
Can someone care to enlighten me? Thanks.

just only virtual keyboard?? No meaning can play PS game on android?? hmm.gif
*
Yes, we can play PS game on Android using emulator. It is just that without the physical button makes the gaming experience worse.
After all, PS games ain't developed for touch screen technology. Unless you paired your SGT with a bluetooth controller then you will feel really shiok with the PS gaming experience.
However, this is kinda pointless cos I would rather playing emulator on PC/Laptop instead of SGT if I want to fully experience PS games. That being said, if you are only opt for casual gaming, then SGT should be fine for casual gaming lo.

If you are really interested playing PS game on Android... you should wait for Sony Xperia Play!! smile.gif

Playing games on psp imo is really frustrating due to its small screen. I've tested ps games on my tab  (ff7) and it looks great on the 7 inch display.

Added on January 18, 2011, 10:53 amI own several gaming platform (ps3, computer, psp, n-gage) and I can conclude that some games are better on certain platform compared to others. Such as playing command and conquer on pc is much better than ps3. Same with playing unblock-me type games on pc. It just doesn't feel right.
*
Indeed... Xperia Play's screen is too small for optimal mobile gaming experience.
It should be at least same size like PSP 2000 or 3000 series. However, I think that Xperia Play will have its own line of games library...
IMO, Play is a mobile game-oriented device for casual gamers; not for hardcore gamers. Similar to roles that Wii and PS3/Xbox360 differs.

Yeah, 7" screen looks great but I really had hard time playing the game for long time due to awkward way of holding my Tab. My fingers get tired so fast.
It just doesn't feel right. I tried FF3 of SNES emulator. Haven't try PS emulator yet.

yeah, if you can't wait, just get SGT or DHD.
Otherwise you can wait for Motorola Atrix worldwide version... haha... dual core 1Ghz RAM...

Hi Benny, allow me to quote: "Because of its 7" some apps not full screen ; easily overcome - I downloaded spare parts , run the Compatibility mode , boot it twice. Now all my apps works full screen including PaPago X5."

I have problem of how to get Papago x5 to do full screen, can help pointing me to the right direction?

TQVM
*
IIRC, this issue had been mentioned in the middle of this thread....
If I'm not mistaken, you have to connect your phone to the PC and get access to the PAPAGO folder using your PC and change the folder name to the resolution that fits SGT.

quote from Uncle Benny's reply the other day:

You have to manually rename all 480X854 folders to 600x1024. Connect your Tab to computer. Search for all folders with name " 480x854" - then rename each of it. There should be a few of such folders.

After that, locate SPARE PARTS in TAB menu and enable full screen. Reset your TAB and it should be OK

@ Uncle Benny and Bro naTTAN

I thought that Tab currently doesn't have any custom ROM, does it? Though I heard about Cyanogen project for Tab is being passing around in the forum but haven't see any custom ROM being made yet other than flashing to other region.

May I know the benefits of flashing to other region's ROM?
I'm aware of the US Tab doesn't have Phone Call Capabilities so that's why they are flashing to the Euro Tab. Since that we have all the functions, is it worth the hassle to flash to other region ROM?

I haven't root my Tab yet unless there are custom ROM available around the net.

*edit: oops... just noticed that there ARE some ROMs available on the XDA already... however, it seems flashing Tab is quite a hassle work and more complicated than flashing G1 (arr.. guess I need to re-learn everything again since G1 flashing was kinda easy compared to this and I nearly forgot everything already... sweat.gif )
