Accessories for Samsung Galaxy Tab unveiled
by Darren Allan Thinking of dropping £530 on the Samsung Galaxy Tab when it emerges at the start of November? That’s the Carphone Warehouse price for the tablet (or £500 if you take the £10 per month 30 day rolling data plan along with it). And if you want to put even more money on the Tab, Carphone Warehouse is also the exclusive supplier of the most expensive accessory for the slate. And that’s a keyboard dock featuring a full-size 83 key keyboard, with connections for the charger and a 3.5mm audio output. It’ll cost £70 and will only be available from Carphone Warehouse until mid-December. Other accessories designed to complement the Tab include a multimedia desk dock, which is a portrait stand that charges the device (£40), a notebook case which folds back to create a stand (£30), a leather slip case (£25, possibly doubles as a gimp mask given some crafty scissor work), and a gel case (£20). Deep breath… And then there’s the portable battery powered speakers (£20), headphones in black or white (£20), official Samsung memory cards (from £9 to £24, this is starting to feel like the Generation Game), a travel adapter (£35), a USB data cable (£15), an in-car charger (£25) and a cuddly toy (not really). If you bought the lot – only including the best stand and case, of course, you probably won’t need three different cases – it would set you back around £250, half the cost of the tablet itself. Still, there are plenty of options here, there’s no denying that. Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “This range of accessories aims to complement the Galaxy Tab’s features and improve the experience the device offers – whether that’s listening to music, watching video content, playing games or editing documents. We’re delighted to be able to announce a variety of accessories available at launch, with even more to come.” More to come? Good grief. What next, the Galaxy Tab portable credit card shredder, because you’ll probably need it when you’ve maxed out your plastic on your matching cases, chargers, stands, audio equipment… http://www.techwatch.co.uk/2010/10/19/acce...y-tab-unveiled/ Added on Steve Jobs Terms iPad Rivals Like Galaxy Tab & PlayBook As DOA 19 October, 2010 Apple's tablet device- the iPad is without doubt the best tablet PC available in the market these days. The iPad did great business as 3 millions units were sold in just 80 days, which is incredible by any standard. The super success of the iPad forced other electronics company to come up with these own tablet device and recently many companies unveiled their tablet PCs. South Korean electronics giant Samsung introduced its Galaxy Tab recently and Canada-based Research in Motion, which is famous for making BlackBerries also launched its own tablet PC- the BlackBerry PlayBook recently. The fourth-quarter earnings call of Apple came today and it seems that Apple CEO Steve Jobs was not happy with the sales of the iPad as the sales of the device in the last quarter were below than what was expected by analysts. Around 4.1 million iPads were shifted in the last quarter, reported IntoMobile. Jobs also took a potshot at Samsung and RIM saying their 7 inch screen which Tab and PlayBook will sport, were “tweeners.” “The proof of this will be in our competitors pricing, and that’s why we think the current crop of seven-inch tablets will be DOA. Sounds like lots of fun ahead,” noted Jobs. The Apple's CEO reaction to the 7-inch tablets suggests that the Cupertino-based firm will never release the 7-inch iPad. Jobs statement also sends signal that Apple is feeling the heat of the upcoming competition in the tablet market, which was so far ruled by the iPad. Their is no denying the fact that the release of Tab and Playnook will affect iPad's business. How much? This remains to be seen. |
