 AV cable with HDMI from Sony PS3, can it be used together?

I have a HD TV, Mini Hifi with stereo jack input, getting ps3 soon, can the connection below works?:

HDMI out from PS3 to HD TV
Stereo jack from PS3 to my mini Hifi

NO, i dun plan to use the minijack output from monitor, i plan to use the AV cable provided from PS3, which has a stereo jack straight from PS3.
