Hahaha I'm back on a new thread! Was really busy back then. Still is. ): Very nice photos I'm seeing from clivengu there. (:
Thanks MOO! welcome back.. not seeing u for sometime... after the trip, I guess im in love with my TOKINA already.. Don even think of buying secondhand from me..HAHHAHA
a bit cramped i think. how about using thumbnails and lightbox?
Thumbnail? but I want people to experience the large photo in the page without clicking thumbnail..(thats gonna be like flickr )... Unless people's screen resolution such as netbook is too small to view the entire photo...which i what i worry bout.
Fortunately the MFD is 30cm like all other 35mm F1.4 lenses.
Minolta/Sony 35mm F1.4G - 55mm filter thread, 510 grams, 30cm MFD, 1:5x maximum magnification, 76mm long Canon 35mm F1.4L USM - 72mm filter thread, 580 grams, 30cm MFD, 1:5.5x maximum magnification, 86mm long Nikkor AF-S 35mm F1.4G SWM - 67mm filter thread, 600 grams, 30cm MFD, 1:5x maximum magnification, 89.5mm long Samyang 35mm F1.4 UMC - 77mm filter thread, weight N/A, 30cm MFD, maximum magnification N/A, 111mm long (Alpha mount)
To give you an idea of how long 111mm is - the Carl Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 SSM is 111mm long, and the Carl Zeiss 135mm F1.8 is 115mm long!
ahpingko: So you can try 1/200s ISO1600 F1.8. You can leave it in Auto for daylight as it needs to pick a fast-enough shutter speed to avoid overexposing the background.
Woah that is such a huge lens considering it is just 35mm . Sony 35mm f1.8 one only same size like 50mm size. but is this samyang a ff lens? But how is d optic performance of samyang lens, is it really worth it since it is manual focusing. I never have the cobfident to do manual focusing seems too difficult ;(
all shots taken handheld, some reaching into regions of 1-2 seconds
Camera DSLR-A700 Exposure multiple Aperture f/5.6 Focal Length 11 mm ISO Speed 1000
I like the 2nd photos! nice.. Sharp! I still donno what is the proper way to play HDR.. The 1st one is nice too.. but I cant help to notice the noise on the sky..

Ztan: you sure have a hell steady hand!! 6 seconds! it look sharp!
Haha thanks.. Next time must learn how to do HDR from you.

clivengu: Nice one on #1 #2 and #4! Somehow I think the Tokina 11-16mm really inspires you.
I guess I have been using 17-50mm focal length for 2 years and this Tokina is actually a new range for me... so finally can break through a bit. I still dont have a zoom lens yet.. im so slow..
QUOTE(Mikeshashimi @ Sep 20 2010, 02:50 AM)
clivengu: if #4 didnt cut off her legs. It would have been a superb shot, but i like it anyway. Cun! Model also cun.
Mike, I actually got a few shots with her legs included.. but I choose the one with her legs cropped because my sister legs are big and short .. So cropping her leg actually ignore her weakness... somemore she is wearing slipper not high heel...so the leg even shorter. kekeke
Ztan: Windows Movie Maker is a lousy software (free of course), It cant even render a High resolution output. If you interested in doing photo slideshow I suggest you the one I currently using...Pro ShowGold. Is simple & easy to use but u still get enough option to play around. You can either buy it or download it
For the C&C, I'll skip the photos comment. I believe the photos still have much more you can improve on...do more wedding shot and everytime u will learn something new. A quick tips is convert some of the too COLOURFUL photos (auntie shirts+ uncle shirts + chairs + background multi colour) into Black and white. Less distraction hehe.
For the Video, here is what I like to comment. This is base on personal experience & preferences so feel free to take it or not
1. Funky Transition with "love" & "star" shape or other random transition is a No No.. no offense but i think they are ugly.. at least not for wedding. I will stick to the basic slow fade in & out transition only. 2. Always give your photos a bit of movement. Either slowly zoom in, zoom out, moving from left to right or bottom to top. It gives the audience the feeling they are really watching Video than static photo presentation in a meeting. It can distract the viewer from spotting defects in you photo, such as a pimple on the bride face. (good if ur photo is ordinary only. bad for if ur photo are beautiful at every pixel) 3. If you want to do a even more perfect slide, you can try matching the music with your photos..matching the Chorus of the song with the Climax of the photos (in this case maybe the bride & groom meet).. Think of it like a movie trailer sorry i just love watching movie trailer. 4. Personally I like to choose song/music which is less well known.. (not those songs hear from hits FM everyday), cause I think this will give audience a more Refreshing experience.
Anyway good job and it is a nice start. I do my first video using WMM also and when I look back the video, it is just way too terrible to even share it... u can view my oldest video in my Youtube acc.
Here are some photo slides I did. Hope give u an idea of my points above. Still a lot I want to improve on... currently Videography inspires me.. will like to try one day

lwliam: just to check with you. would 1635 or 2470 serve you better during travel? wat i'd like to know is, how many percent was shot with 1118 and also 2470 during your trip?
1116 F2.8 + 50mm F1.4 for my 2 weeks europe trip.. restrict myself within that range.. the only downside is taking food photos become quite difficult..luckily there isnt much nice food in europe compare to Taiwan.

i shoot events a lot..hence primes are not quite convenient for me...
but the quality of the primes are irresistible.. hahaha, I think I switch between my 1750 F2.8 and 50mmF1.4 almost 40times every single event/wedding I shoot.. End up most of my favorite photos come from the prime...maybe can put it this way:
- capturing Beauty comes from the primes - capturing Moment comes from the zoom If you can capture the Moment + beauty with the Primes = PERFECT! haha

shootkk: i think camera soon will be a very personal possession... design to fit some, but not all. A33 definitely not meant for u. because, myself dont feel it too. but it does meant it not for others... many of my friend loves the small size and are not bothered with the size or grip, or look, or evf, infact they loves it. LOL what i feel about BMW and Merc, is that, they weight so much, (lucky, they have a choice of 24mp engine to power them) and consume so much petrol(memory space), cost u an arm and leg... but i still see whole street of rich people driving it.
Anyone here feels that way?
agree?
Agree. Good way to put into comparison

u use credit card to pay ??..actually how to use credit card to pay such online transaction 1...lol...i also wanted to buy a pro account..
Add me after you have Flickr. I register my cc with paypal.. then buy the flickr pro acc using the paypal... Mayb can directly with CC but I dont remember already.
Finally yesterday I get to try A33. I think my comment will be mostly similar with those who have tried it:
1. First impression.. WOW smaller than expectation (eventhough i heard of this many time oredi).. but the grip should b quite comfortable (hard to really feel it because of the stupid big cable thing attached below the camera in sonystyle) 2. my finger has a bit problem searching for the front Scroll.. basically need to adjust my holding position in order to reach the scroll.. 3. control works fine for me.. easy access to important setting Like WB n ISO. 4. Liveview = cool...maybe I have not really tried out the A550 liveview so this seems to be super cool & new for me.. hehe 5. electronic Viewfinder= First when I look into it, I find it very uncomfortable.. hard to immediately get use to it... when pointing to my friend's face.. it has a weird "red" to it... it just feel very digital..but amazing thing is whatever the liveview lcd can do, the EVF can do it.. Play back etc...WB & all settings. Again... because i so used to OVF it takes a while to get comfortable... But i bet most who bought this camera will rely on the LCD most of the time. 6. Focusing speed is amazing.. test it on walking people and moving my fingers in front of the camera. 7. Couldnt Test the VIDEO.. why cant sony just put a Memory card in it. After all its strong point is VIDEO for this camera 8. I hate the ISO setting Jumping from 800 to 1600 directly (same like my old A100) but nevertheless , Iso 1600 is completely usable. 9. This one I am not too certain.. But i Find focusing a little bit difficult when comes to low contrast object.....example shooting a pea on the table.. the center focusing is aiming quite close at middle of the green pea.. is difficult to focus.. I have to move the focus point to the edge of the peas to get the focus "beep". I believe my A700 can easily handle that.
Will I buy this?? I still not sure...I have to research more about video because this will be a camera which i like to explore on its video capability. The different Battery(heard is weak on A33/55) & memory card compare to my A700 also a thing that hold me back from buying. A quick question: is it only advisable to shoot video using the SSM lens(with autofocus)? so that the focusing transition will not be so erupt ?
What's the best price for Sony mount 17-50f2.8 Tamron in d market may i ask?
Something wrong with the focusing .. or too soft? Tamron 1750 F2.8 rm 1300 i bought for a new one.
QUOTE(zstan @ Sep 24 2010, 12:07 PM)
yesh. especially the corner AF points. sometimes the middle also. this is especially so, if in a hurry, i straight take my camera up, half press shutter, shoot, 70% of the time it will focus the background.
however, if you have 2-3 more seconds to spare when you take your shot, then this is a very good lens.
on the A700, it performs better though from what i've heard.
prime or zoom, your call.
So far No such problem.. focusing is fast and accurate on my A700.. though i learn the hard way. I bought my A700 + tamron 1750F2.8 together... and I realise serious backfocusing problem....before i bought the lens i heard of frequent Tamron backfocusing problem.. so I thought is the tamron problem..100%. Never would I thought in the end is my New A700 is the one that is backfocusing. hahaha.. my solution to it is to adjust the A700 focusing point myself.. Now everything is good.. no more backfocusing problem on my tamron.. and its focusing is fast enough.. no complaint . it focus faster than i could respond. (mayb im a slow person ) after adjusting the focus plate my 50mm f1.4 also focus accurately. But now I realise i only rely on my center focusing point because my other side focusing points arent that accurate .... but as long as i have center focus accurate.. i can do most of my shot. I dont dare to tweak with my camera again..
Want to get some advice & input about A33 video recording.
I am still considering if i want to get A33 body as my backup body for my existing A700. One of the reason i think i like to try A33 is because:
1. Liveview- open up wider shooting possibility at difficult angle. I never have used one until today and will like to try. A700 is one hard camera for stranger to help me take group photo during a trip because they will ask the same question "where is the screen.... (liveview)"? then i have to ask them look into viewfinder to snap
2. Video Recording- Exploring video recording. A whole new way of playing a camera.. I think more n more client will want video recording these days compare to still photos.
3. Backup body for my A700 & better high ISO handling. Was thinking the low weight A33 to be mount with 50mm prime (light fast lens) without flash, while A700 handle the general lens like 1750 or my UWA with Flash during event/wedding shooting.
Is the above reason good enough for me to get this camera? Or mayb i should invest on the 85mm F2.8 + 35mm F1.8? or A77?
I want to ask.. for Video recording .. i read a bit about its pro/cons of A33/55 video recording.. but correct me if im wrong? - No manual control over video recording.. (all auto) - Aperture Priority in video allow us to change aperture but there will be no AUTOFOCUS - No Shutter Speed/ISO control during video recording... I heard the camera will automatically maintain at speed 1/60s by adjusting the ISO. So I cant do Slow down "matrix style" motion picture.. at 1/4000 second - When shooting video at Auto.. Aperture open at F3.5? WHY??? or some I read is it will shoot at widest aperture F1.4???
Is there any other thing i need to take note? I was thinking maybe A77 will tackle all these restriction... they just reserve the full control over for a better advance model ... hai~~
Other disadvantage over A700 i realised is its fastest shutter speed is 1/4000. When using wireless flash shooting outdoor i can use up to 1/8000 with my A700 to darken the sky.. Is there any other restriction when using Flash on A55 that i might have missed out?
i calibrate more then 7 unit of alpha already(and some other brands too) all happy customer
btw, calibration is the reason i will not get new camera or A33, hate it if i gotten a bad unit, need to calibrate myself, and i have totally no idea how can a A33 calibration works
wow.. very skillful already in calibrating already .. Mind asking when you calibrate your camera base on 50mm F1.4, Do you just calibrate base on the Center focus(by turning all the 3 Screws at the same angle) Do you actually adjust to make sure all other points is accurate? i know turning all screws together actually control the center focus.... but controlling the UP DOWN or LEFT RIGHT or even ANGLE of the focusing Plate.. i have no idea how to adjust each screws..
clivengu: You can, to some extent, do manual exposure;
1) set to manual focus 2) set the aperture 3) set the EV (this will affect shutter speed)
On the contrary, it will be able to use 1/4000s if there is enough light at F1.4 ISO100.
Yes when AF is on, video will be at F3.5, not F1.4. It is a technical limitation because of the AF sensors.
okey i think i get a rough idea how it works... Thanks albert.. But if AF on video will be at F3.5 (for all lenses?) then what will be the difference shooting video using the 50mmF1.4 and using 1750F2.8 at 50mm or 18200 lens at 50mm? all will come out the same result?
And also All the new lenses seems to have SAM...the purpose of SAM is silent focusing?? SSM= super sonic motor/ super smooth motor? So basically SAM lens are needed when shooting video just to reduce the noise.. SSM is for better transition when focusing? Last time never bother bout SAM or SSM because as long as can shoot.. is okey oredi for me..
clivengu: The 18-250mm certainly won't be at F3.5.
SAM is not quiet, unfortunately, but it lets the NEX with LA-EA1 on firmware V.03 (only coming out in middle October 2010) to AF.
Also, SAM lenses are a bit 'grindy' so even in MF on the NEX bodies, the focusing ring can be heard (this according to bryanlyt.)
Therefore the best lenses for video are the SSM and ungeared, unclutched screw-drive lenses. (Clutch like the 16-80mm where the focus ring does not move when camera is auto-focusing.)
I see. so if im to get the A33...better just get the body only because its kit SAM lens also wont do any good for me...I thought it will works better for video... SSM lens.. i can only think of the 70300G~ & 24-70mm f/2.8 SSM
Im screaming out loud... found another reason i should buy more expensive lens..........
Therefore the best lenses for video are the SSM and ungeared, unclutched screw-drive lenses. (Clutch like the 16-80mm where the focus ring does not move when camera is auto-focusing.)
Uncluttered screw drive lenses.. Is the TOkina 1116 F2.8 one of the example? the focus ring doesnt move when auto focusing..
clivengu: The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM will make an excellent companion to the A33/A55, because it has OS, so you can turn off SteadyShot and shoot 29 minute videos.
However, it may need to be rechipped by Sigma - we have yet to see how it is.
You will not hear yourself manual focusing with the Sony 50mm F1.4. Dunno about the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 though.
Also bear in mind that the longer the lens, the less practical it is for interviews - the person would be too far to hear in a crowd, unless he/she had a mike.
Does your Tokina make any sound when you manually focus it?
Okey i just took out all my 3 lens and set to manual focus to test it out:
1. Tamron 1750 F2.8, LOUD Autofocus... Manual focus got this SCREW n Ki Ki Kok KOk sound... 2. Tokina 1116F2.8, LOUD autofocus.... manual focus smooth and silent... but HARD TO MANUAL FOCUS USING UWA~~ 3. Sony 50mm F1.4, less loud but still pretty sure will record into video... Manual Focus.. Very smooth.. most effective.. and I realise it isnt tat difficult to manual focus with this lens.. especially i think with video.. no need to focus 100% accurate also will work.
btw.. so the A55 SSS when on during video shooting will cause the camera to overheat and can last for few minutes only? 30 minutes is very long compare to 2-3 minutes most have claimed.
