Batmaninkl : Take all reviews with a pinch of salt. Also be aware that it's not really good practice to shoot video clips that goes on and on and on for minutes and minutes. It'll bore the heck out of everyone!

Try looking at music videos. They are usually only around 5 minutes in length but notice how many times the view changes and how long on average a camera angle lingers on a specific subject before the view is switched.

Even in TV, the view will switch without lingering on for very long. Rarely will you see a dialog being recorded from on single POV for the entire duration.

I highly doubt anyone will be impressed with a 29-minute unbroken footage so that makes the overheating problem really just a minor niggle no matter what the brand.

+1

short video is good enough.

yeah, and if you are really shooting your kid, are you sure that your kid will stay still for 29 minutes for you to shoot?

assuming he/she is playing toys, will u be there filming 29 minutes none stop of your kid playing the same toy with the same action?

if he/she is running around the house, are you going to carry you camera and videoing your kid for 29 minutes none stop and chasing your kid at the same time?

Batmaninkl:

You can turn off SteadyShot and get 29 minutes (at 29 minutes, if you're doing some sort of surveillance, you'd put it on a tripod.)

Of course if you want to shoot a continuous 29 minute clip while handheld you can get one of those Sigma OS HSM lenses, or a Steadycam Merlin.

Depends on whether you want the macro. Macro lenses have very, very short MFD so that will be useful if you're one that likes to shoot in that manner.

@Batmaninkl
you can't expect much from the price that sony is offering for those features in a33/55
but if you're interested in video, i would think a33/55 is the way to go, the autofocus ability is just amazing
another advantage is the size/weight of a33/55, have you tried lugging a DSLR over your neck for an hour or more?

i totally agree with shootkk's statement where combined short clips are much better than a continuous video

batmaninkl: if the video function bothers you, id recommend a proper videocam. we're not shooting you, just that ur reasons are somewhat not very strong. but to each his own... as some have said.. ur not going to shoot continuously at the same angle for 29minutes are you? and if ur really into videography, u know that doing it alone is very hard due to the need for varying angles in a video.

i believe the core skil in videography is in the editing.

fansoption: the 28mm has an MFD of 300mm and the 30mm has a 130mm MFD... if u like close range focusing then get the 30mm... but u might want to check Dyxum for sample images for comparison.

Thanks Shootkk, albnok and kstan for your comments.. I like Shootkk comment on the length of video shooting...i normally tak 5-10min...for concert of my kid....just a bit concern on combination of shooting photo and video might overheat the camera...will consider Sigma lense as recommended by albnok in the furture...ok. got to go...pang kan liao..... rclxms.gif

Batmaninkl, you must also bear in mind what the video features are targeted for.

The A33/A55 gives you fast autofocus in video with SteadyShot in all lenses but lacks shutter speed/ISO control in video.

The 550D/60D gives you shutter speed/ISO control in video... but you'd better be good at manual focus as the autofocus in video tak boleh pakai!

That's a video from the 60D with the 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS. The auto-exposure also tak boleh pakai. By comparison the A33/A55 transitions in brightness a lot more smoothly!

Manual focus while following your kid around is tiring!

Generally - the 550D/60D is more suited to the budding filmmaker, while the A33/A55 is more suited to the parent who wants to just film their kids running about.

bataminkl: are u sure 'photo review' is ON with ALL the cameras u tried? All using the same Memory card? if not then u cant compare.

anly: no.. no... he doesnt mean 18250 will give u fast and quick capture.. ALL lenses will (provided the AF is not slow as heck la)... but it will be convenient... lets say u see something near you... u cant take it with a 55200... (near as in... few feet away).. but with the 18250... ud get the 18mm wide angle... but if u have both the 1855 and 55200.. it will take time to switch the lenses... so the key word is CONVENIENCE.

SIFU, THX FOR YOUR OPINION. I MOSTLY WILL GO FOR SAL18250 PR SAL18200. THANKS !

Well no matter which brand, which model you're choosing, the most important thing is you'll enjoy it, learn something new from photography
We should be united by our passion for photography and not the gears/brands smile.gif

albnok: will it be possible for Sony to release firmware that would enable manual control on the DSLTs?

Mikeshashimi: There were talks about possibly having manual control on the A33/A55 in some of the articles. I don't remember exactly. At the moment you can manually control aperture (but with manual focus.)

if SAL18-250 compare with SAL55200, issit same IQ and CA ? or which one better? but SAL55-200 is much more cheaper than SAL18250,since i got 18-55mm lens already..  sweat.gif

+1, same here. 55-200 anytime over 18-250

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
cutting all the jumbo crap.... 55-200 is indeed better in all forms of "photo result". (putting practical aside)

(if u were to go birding, noone carry a 18-250 for birding, they carry straight a 70-400G LOL... kidding wink.gif i carry my 200-400 for birding)

johnmeng: u dont think u wan CC, sure get bomb only, in a photographer eye, that hurts the eye. massively UGLY HDR.

shootkk: yo bro, i shoot wedding too, my opinion,
i. get 2 body.
ii. upgrade ur anticipation skill. always change lens before the fall of event. knowing the event is very important.
iii. i shoot a whole wedding with just a 50mm, not just once, but many times. and they still stunned with my work.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18-250 is nothing. i sold it off after 1 year sitting in by drybox when i realize my 18-70 and 55-200 can do sharper photo.

summore, 250mm (for wedding) that distance, ur flash cant even efficiently be used la...

i can change my lens in 3 sec. i remember once the F1 (Ferrari team) missing 1 wheel during pit, the next following 30 days, all crew are to train pitting non stop whole day for 30 days. hence, today, Ferrari team has the fastest average pit time. so... PRACTICE changing lens improves you.

and to be honest, how many times a person need or fully uses a tele INDOOR?, i might just take that few step forward to snap with my 18-70/55 (i using 17-50F2.8 as kitlens)... and pls pls stop BS like that few step u lost the moment.... u should have anticipate that moment if u intent to go pro.

BUT if u are just a family man that wanted to shoot ur kids or at birthday party or picnic at the beach, just get the 18-250 and IGNORE the IQ, because it is already at the best it can offer. and u will not use the whole 1xmp to do a 50x40 large print (do u?) at most, u will put as ur wallpaper (fullHD is only less then 3MP) or 5R prints which only require 2mp to get max sharpness off it.

u are better off spending money on a F58....

Mikeshashimi: If you run it long enough, yes, but I have not personally encountered overheating! Bear in mind that the NEX does not have in-body SteadyShot so it can't be made to overheat faster. biggrin.gif

fansoption: The Raynox is a lot better.
