tubik, I tried the 35mm F1.7. It is indeed magical and I can see why people are so inspired by it!

e-jump: Now that's what I'm talking about!

mastering89: Weiiird. Check that your battery contacts are clean. Try with a fresh set of Energizer AAA alkaline batteries - those are the most reliable. If it still doesn't work, send to Sony lah what to do. sad.gif

Mikeshashimi: Nice idea!

My girlfriend didn't realize what was different with my A55 either when she looked through the viewfinder. Then again she was so used to seeing the NEX-5!

Some of my colleagues didn't realize what was different about the viewfinder, either. "Oh got a lot of data in the viewfinder? Is that what is different?" That's quite cool, that people don't realize that it's an EVF until you tell them.

d4rkholeang3l: Something is off with this series.

Mikeshashimi: Your laptop has cached it; remove the WWW from the URL, or add the WWW to the URL.

I have also disassembled a kit lens but have had absolutely no time to figure out how to reassemble it. Good work! That is exactly what gear stripping is.

ahpingko: What zstan meant is to block the pop-up flash from hitting the subject, but the pop-up flash must bounce from the card to the sensor on the flash.

blowsh: The Sony 50mm F1.8 DT SAM has a major, major difference from the Nikkor/Canon 50mm F1.8. The Sony focuses to 34 cm close while the Nikkor/Canon does 45 cm. That 11 cm means you gotta lean back if you want to shoot food on your table.

blowsh: Yes, 34cm is closer than 45cm. The last sentence was meant for the Nikkor/Canon heh. So the Sony gets closer and is more convenient. smile.gif

d4rkholeang3l: I dunno man. To be polite and optimistic to all parties involved, you didn't get her best angles.

You made her look 'bengang' with you. Her jaw is too masculine.

(I really don't like her fringe, but that's beside the point.) If you do feel that her face is that interesting, go for an extreme closeup, where half of her face is cropped.

The challenge for photographers is to bring out the subject's best angle (especially when it is the client - you don't want to shoot a bride looking 'tembam'!)

Now that is not to say that models must all be photogenic. Supermodel faces are not the same face type as swimwear models, for example - they have to be plain, but with a unique feature that either annoys you or is a strong compelling feature.

evilhomura89, ProX: Some Alphas have the option to choose between Focus Priority and Release Priority. If there isn't an option in the menu it means the default is Focus Priority.

You can however insist by switching to MF. (Thanks zstan for the tip first!) Also, the 10 FPS mode is Release Priority (but the first shot must be in focus).

d4rkholeang3l: Don't recompose!

http://www.mhohner.de/recompose.php

Use the side AF points, or manually focus. Or just do something else, shoot differently. You don't have to shoot all medium or full body portraits.

zstan: hyperfocal distance is used for landscapes. You can't bet on using it for shooting at F1.4. sad.gif

jerrylyh: Nice #2!

signither, what is the focal length of the pinhole, approximately? I would guess somewhere in the 20-30mm range as that would be how far the cap protrudes from the body.

That said, it is a rather artsy pinhole picture. Well done!

ieR: While the EVF isn't as big as the A900's OVF, when using both side-by-side, it is very obvious that real life through an OVF is kinda... dull.

That said using primes I don't find much problems with hunting in the dark.

evilhomura89: No problem for me. The overheat icon only showed after 4 minutes video recording after heavy use. Even then it did not shut down.

ahtsong: I am not having problems focusing in the dark with the A55.

wingster: Would've liked #2 done in a way that the ramp aligns to the bottom of the picture so it looks like he's jumping up.

wingster: Avatar was not primarily shot with a Canon 5D MkII. Heck, it's a CGI motion capture film!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_%282009_film%29

QUOTE
The live action was shot with a modified version of the proprietary digital 3-D Fusion Camera System, developed by Cameron and Vince Pace.[83] In January 2007, Fox had announced that 3-D filming for Avatar would be done at 24 frames per second despite Cameron's strong opinion that a 3-D film requires higher frame rate to make strobing less noticeable.[84] According to Cameron, the film is composed of 60% computer-generated elements and 40% live action, as well as traditional miniatures.[85] Additional live action elements were filmed at Kerner Studios on Kernercam 3D systems and RED cameras.[86]

Here is a picture of the camera used:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sonyelectronics/4194825503/

And more from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_movie...n_Camera_System:

QUOTE
There is a video  about the Fusion system presented at NAB 2007 as the "Sony Fusion 3D Camera System". This is also referred to as the Pace-Fusion and Pace-Cameron system (they do credit collaboration with James Cameron). It uses two Sony HDC-F950 HD cameras, which are part of the Sony CineAlta range. Cameron used a modified version of the Fusion camera for his 2009 film Avatar.[5]

Of course, the 5D MkII was indeed used as a B cam in Iron Man 2.

destfull: Welcome back. Use the camera that inspires you! smile.gif

noprob: Nice!

zstan: If only - more like RM3k-4k range I'd say. sad.gif

soulfly: We can turn off SteadyShot, using a Sigma OS HSM lens instead to extend the running time to 29 minutes. Isn't reportage using external mikes too?

If I was using a XLR jack I might as well have my own amp since the A33/A55/NEX-3/NEX-5 does not have a sound level monitor and you risk volume clipping.

d4rkholeang3l: Which lens is this? If it's a crossed X Minolta then it's sticky aperture blades caused by grease. If the lens forces the cap to rotate, it sounds like one of the springs inside is broken. Should be a cheap repair from any camera technician, in the RM1xx range.

d4rkholeang3l: If it's under warranty it's cheaper - FREE!

8tvt: I already have the A55 what.
