guys, i need ur favor, can tell me how to differentiate an alligator gar from other gar fish??

i know alligator gar has wider and shorter snout. however i really hope to have certain proofs since alligator gar is not a cheap fish.

Added on November 22, 2010, 12:41 ambtw, can i know how to differentiate their sex? and wat are the diffs of male and female Alligator gar? like in terms of size, shape, temperament etc.
*
kindly at Malaysia only have aligator gar and florida gar for sale..

the biggest different of both are...the size.

aligator gar much more bigger than florida gar...

max size of aligator gar (captive) = around 6' feet

about the sex i dont know.

1 more alligator gar much more beautiful than florida gar biggrin.gif

Ahhh.... finally someone finally deigned to reply to my msg. So,bro how big is your fishes?
i read somewhere ,that it is almost similar to P. armatulus. Can you tell them apart when they're just mere hatchling? The term Rapheal catfish, which species does it refer to ...armatulus or costatus?.costatus is the rarer one, though
i finally decided to get one....i'm fine with the slow growth that all...hehe

anyway, you did mention archer fish...how's that sniper? i heard it's from mangrove habitat...
Can you even put it along with other freshwater tankmate?
*
my fish still small...last time got size about7-8".but it already R.I.P cry.gif so decided to get them back..

about the term Raphael catfish is referring to armatulus or costatus? ermmm actually im not expert in this sweat.gif maybe other member's can explain more on this icon_question.gif

archer fish.is rarely i can see them sniping smile.gif

yup i put them with my other freshwater tankmates! icon_rolleyes.gif

datnoids are not expensive bro... normal NTT aka Northern Thai Tigers, IT (Indonesian Tigers) are pretty much affordable.. around RM35-55 for the size of 3inch+/-.
even AT (American Tigers), some called it silver tigers were just slightly more expensive than the 2 mention above.. less than RM200...
The second most expensive will be NGT (New Guinea Tiger) and the most expensive ones were the true ST (Siamese Tiger).

btw.. they go along well with goldfish... no problem.. smile.gif

*
agree with you about place a thicked glass on the side...im sure this pond not for koi fish smile.gif
