Hi Everyone,

I am currently user of NIkon D3000. Since D7000 had been launched, I feel like to upgrade myself to a better camera.

In fact, I am not really keen in photoshooting, however, I always want to take a quality photo. D3000, when I shoot in the morning (enought sun light), the photo quality are pretty good (my opinion), there is no different compare to high spec camera. Problem is, when I try to shoot in low light condition, under shade, romantic restaurant (always low light), or indoor..moving object (my daughter) always goes blur..even i put highest ISO 1600, picture tends to be better, but a lot of noise and color seems came out inadequately.

In short, I have two intention to change to better spec of camera:

1) fast respond, or I should said, fast focus
2) can shoot in low light condition with, for example ISO 6400, with nice photo outcome. nice photo outcome = no noise, correct color. ( I dont like to use flash)

my questions as below:

1) if I maintain with my D3000, and change to better lense, would it solve my problem?
2) D300s and D7000 just little different, if in your opinion and I should pursuit for better camera, which one should I go for?

Yes..i feel little shame when i see ppl better spec of camera in public, and I always tends to hide my Model of my camera..haha..However, I always remind myself , "what you want" is most important that "how people see"...so..please advice..

If for me, I would get myself a fast lens (maybe a prime with larger aperture) if i'm on a limited budget. Depends on your budget and shooting requirements.

There's no need to feel shame about what camera you're using. I used my Nokia 5800XM also jadi sometimes for candids. tongue.gif

You're doing things wrong. Get better lenses, not a new camera.

Added on November 15, 2010, 9:47 pmHi Geekster129, i found that, many lense for D3000 is very expensive!

f1.8 50mm good one...i haf exising f1.8 35mm, but when i try to shoot in low light environment, the outcome is dark, when try to set ISO 1600 (Max for D3000), the outcome is blur..noise!

Therefore, for low light condition, fast lense or D7000 (ISO 6400) will help me the best?? *despite the budget first.

go for flash..
wont regret it man!

Yeah, I have a flashgun..but, in some...or most of the situation, carry a flashgun along is too heavy for me..and for my understanding..flashgun will not bring up the photo naturally looking...

If f/1.8 still not wide enough for you, then the maximum you can get is f/1.4.... just a little gain.... sad.gif

In this situation, I believed you need a really low-noise camera more than a f/1.4 lens as f/1.4 won't help you much... blush.gif

Of course, at the end, only you will know what you need the most... smile.gif

GK, i totally agree with you. F1.4 really doesnt help me much ...not only me..but for most of those with beginner camera..

High ISO, Low noise = D7000.

In fact...i been waiting for the launch of D7000. Perhaps, i should just buy the body to save some money...and for time being, just use back the D3000 kit lense, 18-55mm F4.5.

I hope D7000 will help me to what I wana achieve..

The 35/1.8 is a very good lens, of course if you factor in price, then the 50/1.8 is even better. If you're shooting in very, very low light (like inside a pub or dimly lit restaurant), nothing is going to help you save a D3/3s/700; and a fast f/1.4 like the 24/35/50/85mm f/1.4 lenses. Then you have to ask yourself, is it worth the expense? How many percent of keeper shots do you stand to gain vs. the investment of close to RM8k, if you chose the cheapest option of D700 & 50/1.4. And then there is the issue of too shallow depth of field. Can you accept sharp eyes and blurred noses? Or how about sharp noses and blurred eyes? If you rely on AF in dark places these things happen more often that we wish it would. And those piggy cameras are 2x the weight of your current one. Would you be happy hiking with it? And those lenses... even piggier (if there is such a superlative word) than the cameras.

Now look at "buying" higher ISO. Now, say for instance the D3000@ISO1600 is about the same as D7000@ISO6400. You don't want that much noise. Then you would still use the D7000 at 3200. Or less than that. Remember that ISO6400 is 2x the sensitivity of ISO3200. Imagine you have to pay 2x the price for an increase from ISO400 to ISO800. Would you still consider it? Doesn't sound very attractive anymore, right? Don't be fooled by the big numbers. Essentially you'd be paying more than two times the price of the D3000 just so that you gain one stop or at most 2 stops of light sensitivity. Where is the economy in that?

That said, the D3000 and 35/1.8 I feel is more than sufficient for >90% of the situations you will be in. If there is not enough light, the answer is usually not having a faster lens, or having a higher ISO. The answer is to have more light. Maybe a bounced flash? Or if you're not shooting people, a tripod and slower shutter? Or if you're shooting people, perhaps you could move to somewhere with more light?

Upgrading your body and lens is not the way to go. Changing how you shoot; where you shoot; and paying attention to your light sources, now that makes for better photos. Learn and know your camera's limits, and learn to work within them, thats the reward of photography.

Of course, if money is no object, and a D7000 is pocket change, then by all means, buy it yesterday already.

I had read ur message again and again..finally I got the message from you. Thanks for the advice. After reading the your message, I think I had decide to go for D7000, not for just higher ISO or watever..maybe Full HD video also another bonus for me..mm my birthday is just another 2 days..and I am ready to spend for this new D7000. thanks for your advice bro.

Oh yea, you bought it yesterday??? D7000? how much? where?

I went to Fotokem, they selling RM3,999 (body). and Camworld selling RM3800(cash). IF buy with credit card, addition charge 4%!!!! too high!!!

Please advice

Hmm sorry I didn't state clearly  biggrin.gif
I mean the top MODE dial, A S P M the one, not the front/rear dial  blush.gif

A S M P mode, quite easy to use...what i mean, at least i understand the basic skill of using A,S,M...which I learn from my D3000!

But, when come to D7000...wow...exposure also many setting...AF setting...different from D3000

I just want to shoot at my son face..but, the focus point very hard to aim at eyes...seems running here and there..! why?

This u muz read the manual under focus section clearly! haha... below the button where u press to remove the lens, there is a button to change focus settings, hold in while turning the front and rear command dial to change the focus preference! If u wanna focus eyes, change it to AF-S, means single point, then u select single point, not auto!! then u can focus on the eyes =) Hope this helps...

Thanks Bro! maybe i just dont fully understand the manual guide! But, what you had just guide me, I made it!! Thanks!!!!!!
