im still going to disagree with you awyongcarl, for example on M15x and M17x if you notice there were some issue with the laggy touchpad.
its been going a while till dell find out and fix it, they come out with latest BIOS and tauchpad driver to solve this issue.
when i had this issue on my M15x, it was seriously bugging me.

m17x does not support tht feature. U need an x58 board to do it. So far I only saw sager with tht. Np7280 with gtx480m n gtx460m as physicx

Have you looked into increasing the surface area of your copper heatsink? I'm currently looking into purchasing copper slabs (thin one) which can be added to the existing copper pipes to increase surface area and help reduce the temps a bit more......

situation - just bought a ssd, install in on my m11x, install win7 onto the ssd ( using the cd given with the laptop )

problem
- alientouch is not there. when i view it, no setting options appear, only the ALIENWARE writing in alien language
- also, the log in screen, it uses the normal win 7 log in screen. previously ( from the original hdd that comes with my Alienware, there's a custom AW log in screen. how can i get this back? )

Since I have bought an Alienware laptop, I am thinking that I want to save some money, so that I can buy an Alienware desktop in the future. Then again, if I want to have dual graphic card setup, I have to invest at least RM 10000. With just RM 6000, anyone can have dual graphic card setup in a custom-built desktop. Needless to say, if I were to say that I have bought an Alienware desktop , at least anyone from Hardware Q&A would condemn me for being stupid.

So, it is kind of saddening to see many Americans that can comfortably purchase Alienware desktops while we Malaysians do not share the same fate. Perhaps, I may not have a decent chance to purchase an Alienware desktop at all. 

If you say like this, we are all stupid then as we spend 6k+ for a laptop that will even lose to a 3k custom made desktop.Whatever man, as long as we are happy and satisfied with what you have. I think we dont really need to care about those people.

At least we can move ours easily, despite it's a 5kg monster.

The alienware Orion backpack is great... Been using it to carry my HP 18" and now can use for the m11x.. Cool stuff!

Yes, I know that custom-built desktop is more worthwhile than OEM desktop. It is just that I am not knowledgable wenough to built one oneself. Sure, you can get a recommended specification for your budget from Hardware Questions & Answers. However, a PC is more than just processor, RAM, hard disk, video card and so on. You need to know as well the proper brand of thermal paste, heatsink, fan, etc.

I am sure that I can just ask any Lowyat retailer to build one desktop for me, based on the specification I want. Some of them may claim that they know everything, but they may have wrongly installed some components and caused damage to your system. I may be unlucky enough to stumble upon unscrupulous retailer. Suppose that I want to have Brand A in my system. The retailer may just installed Brand B which is inferior in quality and similar to Brand A, in order to gain more profit. I may not realised it, until it is too late. Plus, certain things, like warranty, is not standardized. The retailer may earlier claim that every component is under 3-year warranty, but when you come to claim warranty in the future, the retailer may try to beat around the bush and claim such components are not under warranty. Thus, you end up paying more than you should.

For advanced computer users, DIY desktop is the way to go. For someone who is not so computer-savvy like me, it is better to go for branded desktop. It is safer and standardized.

It is okay. I am collecting information here and there about Alienware desktop. It is just my intention in the future, so nothing is confirmed yet.
