QUOTE(BuFung @ Sep 19 2010, 12:19 AM) ohps.. Got reliable chilli sos saying Iphone4 coming next week.... how Nokia gonna react? since last time apple is saying mass sales for iphone 4 is on end of september, and people are already talking about msia getting them at that time too...Nokia? just get the new Symbian^3 series out as fast as they can and sell them cheap...that should stop people from getting iphone 4...I think that gonna cut a big one from Nokia.... |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 20 2010, 11:56 AM) AFAIK: ram is NOT phone memory....phone memory is basically your built in memory, C: drive. RAM is different, don confuse yourselfThe RAM is called Phone Memory instead in Symbian? Many specs from various site never mentioned about RAM but only mentioned about Phone Memory or Internal Memory, and it seems you're allowed to install apps to Phone Memory. If you install apps to the Phone Memory, it will reduce and eventually leaving your device having lesser memory and out of memory error. For N81, after you install OVI Maps 2.x and N-Gage Arena (which are required to be installed in phone memory), you're left with about 5MB++ Phone memory; Now this is a disaster, browsing cache will use up the remaining memory and give you out of memory error. When there is Mass Internal Storage version, people start to confuse and think having more the 8GB or 16GB makes a different; Just like N81, those that bought the 8GB version thought they will have more memory, technically yes, in terms of storage, but the RAM/Phone Memory is still the same. |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 20 2010, 12:21 PM) Hm... so what is RAM in Symbian? put it simple, it's like out RAM and HDD in computer. IIRC Symbian stores internet cache on C: drive, so when your C: drive runs low, and there're no space to stuff the cache, you will get that error..I'm also confused because you're allow to install applications in Phone Memory, but can you install in RAM? I have no idea. Why does the Phone Memory is low, we get out of memory error? Isn't this due to RAM? Many article/blog which complains about the low Phone memory of Nokia Symbian devices as RAM. So, which is which? Any SIFU here can explain instead of telling it's different thing instead? This is really confusing. if you are out of ram, i remember the error is something like "Out of system memory, please close some application....". Phones like N81 have around 30MB+ rams on fresh boot iirc, and 30MB is not that much for multitasking, and it's really small for web browsing as well. |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 20 2010, 01:04 PM) Here's something else I wonder: have u tried installed task management tools like JBTaskman before to your phone? if you did, i think that app can help u in tracking your available ram.N97 - 128MB RAM? After fresh boot, it's around 50MB++ (Phone memory)? Can't remember the exact amount. N97 Mini - 256MB RAM? After fresh boot, it has more than 100MB++ (Phone memory). Why does the RAM affects the Phone Memory available? i was a N81 user before i changed to N82, so i understand what you are saying. N81 has really little internal memory, after installing ngage + nokia maps, it really has around 5MB left. I am not too sure about your situation as i never installed nokia maps 2.0 last time. restarting your phone doesnt really affect your phone memory(C:) apart from the caches...as i mentioned, a fresh boot for N81 after v21 firmware is around 30MB RAM available to use, as for how much is left on your phone memory, it's entirely based on what you have installed. as for your situation right, i really not sure, maybe you can try use apps like jbtaskman to monitor your ram usage first. @andrekua, bufung, aspire2006: can we please don bring that whole ram sage up again everytime we see the word 'ram' in this thread? QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 20 2010, 02:43 PM) BBXiong: ah...i see..that explains a lot..lolSorry, I think I may have confused myself. I remember now, there is a different message called "Memory full. Please delete some data and try again". But somehow it also relate to some error when I tried to run Garmin when my Phone Memory is low, maybe the RAM is also low that time, I'm not sure. Haven't used a Symbian for quite long time already. |

QUOTE(aspire2oo6 @ Sep 20 2010, 03:09 PM) Care to ellaborate memory leaks means its restore but it just doesnt acknowledge it in system memory? well, some rough explaination la..when an application uses ram, it would need to register the address to the system, and that portion of ram would be allocated for the application only, no other application can access it. Normally, when the application finish using it, it would free the ram from its usage. memory leak is when the application did not free off the ram that is no longer being used by it. Since no other application can access it, the usable ram would become smaller, and the ram taken by the application that is not free would be 'forever' lost...until you restart the device that is... |

QUOTE(sklchan @ Sep 20 2010, 03:15 PM) actually, it gives you sharper text, you notice that despite the higher resolution, all the text and icons size did not change. Steve Con. Jobs mention that the pixel is directly x2 of the width and length of the 3GS, so upscaling on iphone 4 would just means pump in 2x the pixel to the text/icon, just making the image sharper, which i think it's rather cool...well, too bad it's iOSAdded on September 20, 2010, 3:29 pm QUOTE(aspire2oo6 @ Sep 20 2010, 03:24 PM) since it's still allocated under the certain application, i don think so..in some scenario, even when the application is terminated, the memory it used would still be allocated for it..maybe ram booster can clear those off..but honestly, if you feel that you phone is too laggy, just restart..i mean...how hard is it? QUOTE(sklchan @ Sep 20 2010, 05:50 PM) hope not lo QUOTE(Borsch Soup @ Sep 20 2010, 05:51 PM) Last time when HTC put 800x480 screen on their phones, reviewers say fonts too small, eyes cannot see etc etc, like i said, the font size and icons didnt change, what changed is the sharpness. Steve Con Jobs mention it's exactly x2 the width and length pixel then the old gen, so upscaling is just x2 the pixel, which in result is sharper imagenow apple doing 960x640 people say good ah, very good ah. just found the word, the font increased 2x, but the font/icon DPI also increased 2x This post has been edited by BBXiong: Sep 20 2010, 05:56 PM |

QUOTE(sklchan @ Sep 20 2010, 05:56 PM) Con Jobs good in brain washing with all his con thinking... x2 pixel means no same resolution already ler just how he x2 the pixel with same small screen ah and same resolution? how smooth the outlook it all depend on the DPI... although u can get the DPI right but still small small things no matter how smooth still consider small small things... QUOTE(nicholasbeh @ Sep 20 2010, 05:58 PM) dun like this...can u shout in front of him by using any other device which is higher resolution than i4?no doubt,S.J i4 wins. i am just merely pointing out the fact here...it's like how fHD resolution in 15" looks way sharper then 720P in 15" laptops.. |
