Hey all. I just thought I should add my setup to the foray. Here it is:

user posted image

I just got the 42'' Philips 1080p HDTV and man, don't ever let the reviews fool you. CNet Asia gave it a 6.3 rating but the only downer about it is the aesthetic/exterior design. Spec-wise, for RM5350(the amount I paid it for), it's a really good 1080p TV. It accepts 1080p/60 signals and the picture quality is really satisfactory. If you're on a budget for a decent 1080p tv, then the Philips 42PFL7422 should be at the top of your list.

Other than that, my setup consists of a Panasonic DVD player, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, 80GB Playstation 3, Yamaha 6.1 surround set and the must-have Astro.

PS: If you're worried about how Astro looks like on the TV, dont worry. I'd say the tv de-interlaced the 480i signal quite well. Also, DVD upscaling on PS3 rocks!

That's a good price, where did you buy it from?

An electrical shop called HLK at Taipan, Subang Jaya. The unit was brand new direct from Philips warehouse.

So you are satisfied with the PQ of the tv? When I first heard a 42" 1080p at 5k I was sceptical about it.

Yeah I was pretty skeptical myself. But when I fired up a 1080p movie through HDMI on the PS3, then I realized it was a good purchase. Even normal DVDs look great on it when upscaled to 1080p through PS3. Although, the default picture settings aren't something you'd want to use. I just tweaked the brightness and contrast to make the black becomes darker and bright areas become more brighter and vivid. Basic tweaking so it's not hard to do at all.

That is good news, lets hope that more company will bring down the price to match this TV.
I doubt it. The Philips TV is a basic 1080p tv and that's all we average joes would ever need to enjoy full HD. TV manufacturers are always trying to get more money from consumers by introducing more features that you may not even want or able to use anytime soon, sleek designs and picture quality(black levels, contrast ratio, 100Hz, etc.). Heck, even Philips does it with their high-end HDTVs.

If you dont plan to use 1080p through VGA or Component, then the PFL7422 series is a bang for the buck because that's the only major technical downer IMO.

Eh i thought the PFL7422 can do 1080p on components as well?  unsure.gif

Oh? I thought only the later models can. Well if it can do 1080p over component, my Xbox 360 is gonna go full HD when I get the cables! biggrin.gif

Anybody using Panasonic's 1080p projector? I got a good offer on it but I wanna hear how it performs.

To those guys with loads of Blu-Rays but with 720p tvs, a friend of mine told me that within the next 2-3 months, current 1080p tvs will get RM500-1500 reduction/discount promos. Time to jump into the Full HD bandwagon, guys!

NOTE: 19th February 2008. Toshiba resigns from HD-DVD. Blu-Ray FTW!

PS: rx330, how much u selling that GT5 Prologue ah?

bro, sorry, gT5 sold aredi.... blush.gif

how much u were offered for the 1080p projector?

Rm11k for it. Another 1k for extra lamp. Think it's a good deal? The only reason I'm contemplating for another 1080p display is because of there's an empty room in my house that would make a very nice small home theatre. hehe

Ooo this was one of the HDTV's that I originally wanted to buy. Big screen, low price. The PQ is pretty good for a rear projection LCD. How much did you get it for?

Whoa. When did you get it? That's more expensive than my 42'' Philips 1080p tv that I bought 3 months ago.

Yeah, but his set is only 720p native. 1080p TVs usually cost a lot more even if the screen size is smaller than the 720p set.

QUOTE(psyeo @ Feb 23 2008, 04:51 PM)
I guess that is the price for few months back as well, bcoz My dad bought the 1st set for 6.5K while recently second set for 3.999K.

May I ask, how much is ur 42" full HD panel? now waiting for fullHD panel price to drop...
*
I got it for RM5300. There's a 47'' of the same model but the lowest price I found was RM7200. Which is not that bad considering the suggested retail price is RM9999. The 42'' suggested retail price is RM6999 btw.

Nice setup! That's a 42 incher Panasonic lcd tv right? I like how the colour matches.. Except for the PS2's blue panel and stand. Haha

is there any electromagnetic disturbance happening to your PS2 & 3? placing it on the speaker may expose your console to quite strong magnetic field. but if your woofer got magnetic shielding then nevermind lah...

So that's why I get a mild electric shock whenever I touch my PS3's chrome trim..

I have the same sound system setup. Can do 1080i with no problems through component. Dated, but still very good, right bro?
