Not too sure but for me i use it sometime when i lazy to shift down to D2 or D1
My explanation. So correct me if i'm wrong sifus.
Hold means restriction of use to a certain gear you are in. Most Auto gear car have it now. Myvi, Vios, etc
Example.to hold a gear position when you want to reach a certain speed with the right gear mode you are on.
I want to drive on a hill and i do not want to use D2 or D1 but i know i need to use lets say 2nd gear to go up on the steep hill. So i press the hold button when i hit 2nd gear and this will maintain the gear position until i released the hold button.
Some says this will prolong the auto tranny since you maintain a right gear along your drive up the steep.
But beware, there are limits to hold your gear at certain speed. Check the owner manual. i Believe it written since i read before. 90km/h for 3rd gear i think.

Hope this clarify you.
Anyway, Just use the D2 or D1 is you want to go up or down a hill or even overtaking someone.

QUOTE(ryusher @ Apr 5 2012, 06:11 PM)
based on my Google research and personal experiment, the HOLD button will force to lower 1 level of the max gear position.

Example, in normal condition,
We can go up to 4th gear @ D, 3rd gear @ S & 2nd Gear @ L

if we pressed Hold, the max gear position will be
3rd gear @ D, 2nd gear @ S & 1st Gear @ L

In normal driving situation, the gear position will auto go one level down if we press the accelerator harder for acceleration, but the gear position will come back to the original position if we loosen the accelerator, if we need more power to acceleration again, we need to repeat the same action, but the gear positioning switching impact is very uncomfortable.

When we use the hold button, the gear will not back to the highest gear position even we loosen the accelerator. This will be more comfort to the driver & passenger and maintain the high power output with high RPM.

I tried on the highway, when i drive about 110km/h, i press the hold button and the car was able to reach 140km/h in a short moment.

Hold also good on hill road, i used hold + S for my Cameron highland trip, it's feel great!
*
Ryusher. i think it is not precise. Hold means Holding the gear position you are in. it is different compared to D2 or D3 or S
As i know let say you are in 3rd postion and u are in D2, u dont want your car to slip in lower or higher but to maintain at 3rd gear only, then you need to press the hold gear. This is from my experience driving a vios, Myvi and my lovely Zoom.

Every car has their pro n cons, there are no perfect car.

If u looking for comparison, here are my personal view,
Exterior, very subjective, my point of view are M2 more sporty n energetic, vios is more mature.

Interior, both are plastic (what to expect on that price range?) size n space are abang adik for b segment car.

Engine, no idea of the different, better ask others sifu. Normal driver like us are unable to differentiate the engine, don't bother of the figure, u can't feel the different of 1 or 2 horse power.

Fuel consumption, both are light car with approximate 1000 kg with 1500 cc,
result won't too far away my average for M2 is rm 0.16-0.17 per km ( Ron 95, rm 1.90/l) city drive.

Break, both front disc back drum.

Gear, both 4 speed auto.

Unique features, vios have electronic retractable wing mirror, Mazda have steering wheel audio control.
Mazda promotion with foc DVD navigator.

Maintinence, Mazda  free 3 years warranty n maintainence (yes, the maintainence bill is rm0 for lubricant oil n filter & labour charges) vios was easily to get spare part from outside workshop and more foreman know how to repair the vios.

Tyre, mazda2 15" with better handling, vios 14" with better fuel consumption.
Second hand price, no idea for mazda2(if not mistaken Malaysia was start to sell m2 on 2010), but vios is having a unbeatable 2nd hand price (this is why vios is so popular in Malaysia although others country use as taxi...) good second hand price also means high risk of theft.

Except 2nd hand price, i will say both car are more or less the same. Why not go test drive and compare which car more comfortable for you?

If resell price really a concern for you, your only option is T or H brand car in Malaysia. This why all Malaysian like those brand and popular in maaysia, because people planned to sell the car before they buy. smile.gif
*
FC, almost same. Another thing to add here is M2 car is unique and is nimble.
There are only only cons which i get from rear passengers, Sitting at back for a long journey kills them.M2 rear seat is not comfortable for a long journey. but hey, It's my car and i don always have rear passengers. hehehe

*
Bro, How u want to compare? as for me. having to have 3 cars in my house.
Same with new vios 2011 model. but compared with old 2004 vios it's not FC. The best FC car in my family is Vios 2004.

I bought Mazda2 at KL and bring back to hometown (TRG) this week. When I went to service center for 1st service/1000km, I gave them service booklet in order to get free service.

But they said the one I gave to them for labor charge only. I must have another book (they call as maintenance booklet) to get all free.

I called my SA and he told me previously HQ only provided 1 book per car to them. Is this mean I need to pay for the maintenance part? How do I get another book as Mazda promise to give 3 years free service including labor charge and etc
*
yes for new mazda you got two service booklet
one is labour and another is the engine oil and oil filter. so without the other card you need to pay for the oil and oil filter

hi mazda 2 owner any advise??? icon_question.gif

bro, different people different saying 5 yrs free maintenance vs 3 yrs... This is depending on you. One is a continental and another is oriental. one has old platform and another is shared platform with fiesta.

Engine don't know. never compare with a 207 so i can't tell. i only test City and has a vios in my family and i can say this car is great. for fuel consumption, i will not lie u can check my fuel on M2 Sedan here
http://www.fuelly.com/driver/leinnz/2

The way i drive depend on my mood.Mostly are 100 percent city in Melaka. and those know Melaka well will know how jam and how many traffic lights there are at melaka compared to other states

Hi guys, as I read the V2 threat from the start till now, I would to know if the brake issue is being resolved? Will this be affecting the new batch of Mazda 2??

I am considering to get M2 too but I like to speed. So having a good braking system is vital for me. Has any experienced M2 owner found the solution for it? Or have to send the car to SC to check??
*
brakes only happened at gravel roads. Does not really solved for me
