I am sure I read it somewhere that says the Defy has FM radio ...

QUOTE(sanosizo @ Nov 28 2010, 11:20 AM)
paid gbp284 for it.

Some nice things about this phone...

- notification LED like the original milestone
- built in 3g mobile hotspot app, no need to have root to do wifi tether
- omap 3610 with sgx 530 gpu
- small and light
- 3.7 inch gorilla glass screen
- got built-in battery manager, something like juice defender i think
- got data manager, monitor and control data connection
- camera auto focus very fast even in low light area

not so nice things...

- it has motoblur, somehow crippled the performance of the phone a bit. straight away replaced with launcher pro for smoother user interface
- camera quality not so good, can refer to youtube
- no fm radio

You overclocked the Defy?

My Defy should arrive today! Going to start learning about android.

Added on December 10, 2010, 2:55 amI don't think this is 3610, because it won't be able to produce that results, when running  at 1ghz it actually almost the same as the droid x running on android 2.2. Theres something special with this cpu, I'm looking forward to froyo benchmark next year biggrin.gif

Clove UK.

Package just arrived.

Ordered on Sunday but have to give them an authorisation code for the transaction since first time buying. Hong Leong have no idea how to help me out hence the delay.

I gave them ID confirmation instead.

Overall took 2 business day once they post my order.

A recommended UK store.

Amazon UK won't ship the Defy to Malaysia, so once I saw Sanosizo bought it already I just have to ask him.

Now need to unpack.

RM 1466 without tax, pass through custom without any charge. I bought it with the defy car dock so the price for the handset only should be around RM 1342.

The online shop will help you out if you failed to get it resolved here. Well it is a procedure I already knew since I have bought stuff online while I was in UK.

For me good service is more important.

Should have a niche group of people wanting this, other smart phones will still dominate the market in my opinion.

Added on December 10, 2010, 3:21 pmYeah, lucky to get the price drop but I did not win the contest for the Defy ! not lucky enough.

UK is quite reasonable in their pricing because they do drop down prices very often. DVD movies, games drop down in price in just a month or so and the price drop is significant.

BTW, your android knowledge seems to be good, I too wish to replace motoblur but this is my first android phone.

QUOTE(sanosizo @ Dec 10 2010, 02:41 PM)
Since you bought it from uk, you need to send back to uk fo warranty claim. You are lucky because the price has gone down from the time I bought it.

Be patient guys, singapore will have defy in 2 weeks time, I think ap set will be available in no time.

Phone is a bit laggy with motoblur on, once we replace it with other launcher everything will be smooth and silky tanpa kesan helmet biggrin.gif

Do I have to root the phone first?

QUOTE(sanosizo @ Dec 10 2010, 03:40 PM)
stock speed running at 800MHz, motorola said it is TI OMAP 3610.

but rsd lite and windows reported the phone having 3630 instead. but judging from the benchmark, it can match the droid x on the same 1ghz speed even tho its running on android 2.1, so I prefer to call it 3630 instead.

to change the home launcher, just go to the android market and download launcher pro. once its installed, just press the home button then select launcher pro from the list. you should feel the difference in menu response after that but you'll lose all the widgets that u have with motoblur. some of it u can add back within launcher pro but some u cant.

Thanks, will be a steep learning curve for me.

QUOTE(sanosizo @ Dec 10 2010, 03:52 PM)
if we look at the spec sheet for omap 3610 from TI, there is no powervr sgx gpu inside 3610. i dont know if motorola managed to custom built the chip and added the gpu inside, is that even possible?

no need to root to use launcher pro. just remember to turn off Data Saver in Data Manager to be able to download stuff from the adroid market.

Hi Sanosizo,

Have you heard the speaker problem of the Defy? seems to be pretty serious everywhere.

Sanosizo, I myself am worried as well, have to send back to UK if any problem arises.

Sorry if I am a bother, if we are not connected using wifi, any activity like connecting to email and so on will be using HSPDA, 3G and we will be charge?

I think I got too exited the first few times using the phone and I think I use those feature quite a few times, shit, will be charge ...

QUOTE(sanosizo @ Dec 11 2010, 01:31 PM)
Oh crap, I hope mine is not affected.

Btw, to disable gps go to settings - location & security, or just put a gps toggle widget on the home screen

Sanosizo,

How did you found out people who bought it from Clove suffer from the speaker problem? mind sharing?

I am not a lucky guy but not so bad luck either, good luck to both of our Defy I guess.

Yesterday my speaker sounded a little weird, maybe it was too loud so I turn the volume down and so far it is still fine after a few time testing it. Hope nothing happens. So far have not been using the audio jack, used once only, having too much fun learning the android OS and playing Angry Birds !

I am also pondering the idea of a bluetooth headphone, but with so much wireless wave around us and close to the ears I am not sure if it is a good idea for the long run, maybe don't use it too often.

But then again, if using the audio jack do create this problem a bluetooth headset is a great idea, and we can avoid the hassle of closing and opening the plastic flap all the time.

If the problem do arise and Motorola Malaysia does cover the repair for Defy bought outside of Malaysia it will be great news. If not I will just send back to Clove and claim warranty.

QUOTE(sanosizo @ Dec 14 2010, 12:42 PM)
i believe it only occurred to some batches, bad news is there are people who bought this phone from clove experienced the problem. this is my 3rd week using it, and i use the earphone everyday to work. but i already planned to buy a stereo bluetooth earphone anyway.

Quite worrying considering we do not know whether our phones are plagued by this problem or not and any day it could happen or it may not.

I browsed through the forum again and yes I saw one guy who bought from Clove got the issue.

Well I should not have brought this matter up, now we all have to worry.

QUOTE(sanosizo @ Dec 15 2010, 10:27 AM)
currently the support manager in motorola support forum is getting some information from all defy owners around the world and there are a few who bought from clove uk. im not sure if its a hardware or software issues because there are cases that the audio jack has never been used before but still experienced the speaker issue. im waiting for motorola to come out with an official statement about this.

Sanosizo,

Thanks for the explanation. Heard you mention flashing your Defy before last time you brick it. Where do you acquire the SBF file anyway?

I think this might interest you if something does happen to our Defy,

http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/MOTOROLA-DEF...ight/false#M494

It is the US version phone but I hope it is software issue.

Seems weird Malaysia's Defy no Motoblur. I have tried launcher pro but the plus version have to pay. Have to set up a Paypal account and get my house's wifi running first.

Thanks for the link Sanosizo.

Sanosizo,

Is rooting then deleting some Motorola bloat ware considered voiding the warranty?

Is your phone still considered under warranty then?

Actually I want to terminate some service that runs in the background like news, weather, feed and all that. I have close their app but they seem to be running in the background each time I restart my phone.

And 3G and so on will kinda immediately download some data if I enable them.

So far I have disable all mobile data, I just want to make sure next time if I do enable some form of GPRS and so on they won't download data without me knowing.
