I have tried again tonight with RB250GS with no luck, exactly same as last night with the link keep dropping, which caused the IPTV to be jerky, with error message saying service is unavailable. Have to use Auto Nego or it won't connect at all. It can't be the RB250GS is faulty, can it? By the way, I still cannot connect to Live TV through both TM-615 and RB250GS, so it means I still have line problem.

Added on September 21, 2010, 11:06 pmI set the Port 1 manually at 1000 Mbps and Port 2 100 Mbps, and suddenly it works, VOD is smooth now. However, I still cannot get Live TV (I can't get Live TV from TM-615 either), so I hope it is just line problem and my RB250GS is indeed working? Keep my fingers crossed.

How much we need to pay extra for Caller ID?

No additional fee for Caller ID, at least for now.

I tried yesterday to reset the STB by pressing the button next to the small LCD screen and it suddenly starts working! Then I tried to verify this is not just a fluke by switch it off (using the remote) and starting again, it started to download some updates and on completion the server error (#100081) returns. This error always occurs prior to the splash screen that shows the Hari Raya Puasa greeting. I unplug the power cable from the STB and it started normally and working again. The lesson from this episode is that somehow, the upgrade process played a part in the server connection error.  Anyone who have this similar problem with their IPTV connection can verify this for me?
*
My VOD is working most of the time. Live TV is the problem. Last night at about 8pm I still can view Live TV, then suddenly when I switched to VOD and switched back, it is gone. After I power it off and on again, an update process started (first 2 times failed, the 3rd time successful), but after it rebooted, Live TV still not available. The button besides the LCD did you hold it pressed or just pressed once to reset?
I have called the CS, he said if it can't be resolved their server side, he will send technician to my house to check.

I have a problem with Caller ID. On my old telephone (non-DEC, TM 'approved', about 10 years old, with Caller ID capability), there is a problem with Caller ID. The first time (after a long time of no usage) of the phone, it does fails to trigger the caller ID. If I disconnect the call and I call the line again immediately (using my handphone), it will show the caller id no. This however, DOES NOT HAPPEN on the supplied DEC (as well as my other Panasonic DEC wireless phones). Can you test this out and let me know??
*
The supplied DECT is the only Caller ID phone I have at home, so can't test for you. It works perfectly fine on the DECT phone now.

OMG, fax is charged...
*
Is it charged because it was fax or because you faxed it to a non-TM number? Some fixed line is actually Maxis line (can't tell from the number itself) and will be charged.

May I know if Caller ID is FOC for UNIFI?

I understand one has to pay for RM 3 per month for TM fixed line.
*
It is FOC.

I used it continuously for a week, internet, online gaming, uTorrent, DC++, no disconnection WAN IP the same, also IPTV on at the same also no jerk, seem to be perfect for me! thumbup.gif
I'm now using that DIR-615 as bridge for IPTV only, I just want to "stress" it within the 1 year warranty period  tongue.gif

Yes, basically you can use any of your currently router, just setup the PPPoE user ID & password [like Streamyx] will do!
Actually with RB250GS, you have several options:

Bro, I still have this IPTV problem. Sometimes I can get smooth Live TV but not VOD, or smooth VOD but not Live TV. And a lot of times after few try I lost the IPTV at all. It looks to me that the IPTV server kind of "sense" the non-standard equipment and block the access? Is there anything else in configuration that I did wrong? icon_question.gif

I finally got my Mikrotik RB250GS running smoothly. Apparently the culprit is a loose homeplug. I agree with klseet, the IPTV is smoother than TM-615, no more lag changing channel.

Strange, if sometime ok sometime not, could it be the line problem?
Also, could it be the DIR-615 or STB start to give problem already ? blink.gif

I never have any problem on IPTV, except for the minor issue on STB LED display, which was replaced with a new unit on the 3rd day nod.gif
RouterOS, are you using RB750 series?
At this moment no idea on RB750 yet, but there's plan to test RB750 very soon, stay tune .....  icon_rolleyes.gif
Ooops, didn't know you are using RB250GS  biggrin.gif
You bought it directly from Soliton?

Glad to hear you solved the problem already!  smile.gif

Yup, so happened a friend visited me last week from Singapore, so I asked him to bring one for me.
Everything is OK now, except I have very low upload speed (0.3 Mbps for VIP5), but download speed is OK at 4.7 Mbps. It can't be the RB250GS problem I believe?

Anyone using Asus RT-N16 have upload speed problem? I noticed that when I use Asus RT-N16 with Mikrotik RB250GS, the upload speed is constrained to about 0.4 Mbps. But when I swap the RT-N16 with Aztech HW-550 I got normal 4 Mbps upload speed. Some configuration need to be done in Asus router?

For Asus RT-N16 users, it looks like you have to manually set the QoS uplink speed to higher than your package (I set 10,000 kbps for VIP5). If you let it detect the uplink speed, it severely constrains your upload speed (0.5 Mbps in my case).

Got the rb250 this afternoon. 8 pm, the whole thing was up. Follow http://unifi.athena.my/index.php?option=co...id=55&Itemid=67 to the LETTER and you will have NO PROBLEMS. REMEMBER upgrade firmware to 1.2.

I checked speedtest and ping test and everything checks out.

But when I surf (maybe it's me), I feel it's abit slower than the stupid DIR615 configuration. - i completely dump the DIR 615. Its now BTU -->RB250GS--> Asus N16 --> Cisco AP 1225G --> PC.

Things that I might do if I am TU LAN

1.replace the Asus N16 with a Cisco 26xx (the 2611 with FREE IOS) for establishing PPPOE connection
2. replace the Asus N16 with a Cisco VLAN Manageable switch - i know the 37xx does it, but it cost a BOMB....any suggestion people? for .500 tagging and un tagging.

Utorrent (MAC) is now at 1881 kb/s - not too bad smile.gif - i am on VIP20

a big thanks to KLSEET!!!!
*
Check the Uplink Speed in the QoS tab, put in a high manual Uplink Speed (like 1000000 Kbps). It solved my speed problem on my N16.

typo...it's a cisco 1252g dual radios. N16 radios are turned off, so it's a ethernet PPPOE dialer/router. the 1252 are a gem. does not saturate when i load her with 720p materials (using PLEX), most wireless ap i tried just saturate when 720p are loaded but not with this baby. 1080 materials are still a no-no sad.gif....still need a CAT5e cables - i am not sure whether I wanna wire my home with cat5e...maybe...just maybe....

any ideas to stream 1080 wirelessly?

Added on September 27, 2010, 12:06 am

Moogle Stiltzkin - I am also quite interested in this home plug ethernet, can you stream 1080p through it without saturation? Does it work over a 3 phase wiring scheme? Purchase from? hehehe

thanks for your forthcoming answers.

regards
*
I use Aztech HL280E Gigabit Homeplug, 1080i is flawless, not sure about 1080p. No problem with 3 phase wiring at my house, I can get connection at every sockets that I have tried. Bought it from allIT but it is rare to find the Gigabit one, more common is the 200 Mbps type.

Guyz,do u know how much the installer charge if i need merely around 20m-30m of lan cable in order to connect the iptv to my tv at 2nd floor??That day when the installer came and install unifi,i told them that i don't need iptv at that moment, but after a while why not give it a try..Plus already paid for the monthly package somemore..huhu..No homeplug for me as i think i'll get bad signal due to old plug point connection smile.gif
*
You never know., homeplug may work perfectly well for you. You only need 8 Mbps for IPTV, a 200 Mbps will give you a lot of spare bandwidth already.

If you don't mind cable running around then it is better. For me, I hate to see exposed cable rclxub.gif

Guys, how troublesome it is to setup this unifi?

I'm planning for the VIP5 but looking as how complicated it is, I plan to go for the 4MB package instead though its RM9 difference.

Any advice?
*
Go for UniFi VIP5, u can cut your fixed line and save RM30 or so, plus you get free fixed line call and IPTV. It is really not that complicated.

inexpensive/free channel is what keeping me from DLing from torrent. Low bandwidth usage. Compared to Astro, Unifi TV is far inferior, if they start charging right now, it is confirm I will hop back to torrent.

They need to think carefully b4 start charging, a lot of user can hop back to torrent which will increase international backbone bandwidth usage = end up more costly to them.

Whoever plan to buy homeplug, don't go for Aztech HL280E Gigabit, it is very buggy, will keep dropping and restart. I read same comments from many users in the Hardwarezone forum. I almost thinking of running a CAT 5e or CAT 6 cable, then saw this announcement of HyppTV no more free after Oct 31. So, no point la, I definitely will not pay to watch the HyppTV with its current programmes.

Guys need your advice.

I've got the DIR615, the Mikrotik RB250GS and a TL-WR941ND.

Obviously, i will use the TL-WR941ND as my router.

But should i use the DIR615 or the RB250GS to act as my VLAN?

I suppose i could use the DIR615 first until it burns out and keep the RM250GS as a backup, but i really the best setup from the beginning.

Basically, a comparison between the DIR615 and the RB250GS as a VLAN bridge -- are both equally good?

Feedback especially from those who recently got their RB250GS is most welcome.

Thanks fellas.
*
Well, it looks like RB250GS is doing a better job than DIR-615 in VLAN, one thing I noticed is the IPTV have no more lag when changing channel using RB250GS.

Bro, can you help me check with your friend if the web hosting is a cPanel hosting?

Also, yea I know about that for the fax but was thinking will it still work if I terminate the copper line. Last time when I read this UniFi topic, some said that it doesn't work. Not sure if there are any solutions to get a fax working with UniFi (aka fibre optics). hmm.gif
*
Don't worry, fax works on UniFi fibre optic line. I have a fax machine too and it works perfectly alright.
