Guys,
Currently I have a 37" LG LCD and a Philips BDP2500 Bluray Player. Interested in getting a simple HTIB minus the player. I have a small living room so don't need a powerful system. Budget roughly rm600.
Any advise on which HTIB minus the player I should get? Quite illiterate on these things...

With the budget, why not the player?
Can check out Philips, Samsung and Pioneer.

@ Damonzero - coz I already have a standalone Bluray Player now. Wouldn't want to make it redundant, kinda wastage. @ neb - thanks for the suggestion, don't have anything lying around though. Would prefer to get something nice looking too rather than old compo

Yah HTIB all have player, your other option is to get some high quality THX kinda PC speakers like the Logitech Z-2300 for 2.1 or Z-5500 for 5.1.

Yes, I agree on this...get a PC kinda speakers...for RM600...can get quite a good boom boom pow oledi But take note: if you want DTS/DD surround, you need a system which has a coaxial in and can decode DTS/DD as well But if you want HD audio, then thats a whole new level.. HTIB minus player? the player in most HTIB is player+amp+decoder built in it. without it, there's no amp to drive the speaker. you want just the speakers+amp? or speakers+amp+decoder?

Onkyo's HTIB doesn't come with a DVD/Blu-ray player and it's a pretty good system but that is way out of your budget (RM 2K ++). Perhaps you could consider a soundbar.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I really don't want to break the budget though.
Say, if I get one of those THX-qualified PC speakers, I have to hook it up direct to the LCD TV audio output rite? Currently I'm using my netbook (it has HMDI output and supports HD movies) connecting it direct to the TV via HDMI. The speakers would still work rite? I kinda like this suggestion, the Logitech Z2300 fits my budget!
Another question, I see some HTIB with DVD player costing like rm600 or so. Can't i buy that one, remove their DVD player and substitute it with my Bluray player? Would that work?

Would that work? you can't remove the dvd player. it's built in it. if you want to use it with your Bluray player, make sure the HTIB has digital coaxial or optical input or accept HDMI audio/video input. else, you'll only be getting stereo as most low-end HTIB only support stereo in.

I'm using old speaker Altec Lansing ACS45.1 for my Pana 42" and sound good also compare built in speaker.
Now thinking to get HTIB because want to save electricity compare
- dvd player + speaker = 2 source electricty - HTIB (dvd player + speaker + amp) = 1 source electricity - more save compare 1st method.
