Here's my conservative OC attempt : Gigabyte GTX460 1gb OC (windforce dual-fan)

Stock core/shader/mem : 715/1430/3600mhz
VDDC stock idle/load : 0.875v/0.987v
Fan : Auto
Idle temperature (at core/shader/mem : 51/101/540mhz) : 36-40'c (non air-con, depending on weather)
Load temperature (gaming/benchmark @ 1680x1050): Up to 71'c
- Starcraft 2 : 63-64'c
- Heaven benchmark (DX11) : 70-71'c
- Battlefield bad company 2 : 71'c

3Dmark vantage at stock

Stress program : OCCT (GPU) 15 min (twice), 1680 x 1050, full screen, error check

Core/shader/mem : 715/1430/3600mhz (Stock)
VDDC : Stock
Load temperature : 80'c
Fan : Auto

Load temperature : 76'c
Fan : set to 100% above 70'c

Core/shader/mem : 715/1430/4006mhz
VDDC : Stock
Load temperature : 81'c
Fan : Auto (went up to 82% at 81'c)

OC stable at core/shader/mem : 785/1570/4006mhz
OC VDDC voltage idle/load : Stock
Load temperature : 83'c sweat.gif
Fan : Auto (went up to 88% at 83'c)

Could do normal gaming at core 830mhz but unigine benchmark will show minimal artifacts.....
At core 840mhz, gaming will cause the Nvidia driver to stop responding.....

At the moment, gonna run the card at stock. Not planning to OC 24/7.....

QUOTE(metsatsu @ Sep 4 2010, 12:33 PM)
that's a huge jump in temp for 70mhz core increase and 400mhz memory. maybe u should tone down a bit on the memory, and try clocking the core to 800mhz+

btw, what's your ambient temp? non air con room right?
*
The high temp due to OCCT la. I think at stock speed also quite high temp when stressed with OCCT. Can't remember how high, tonight will see what is the GPU temperature at stock during OCCT.

Will post up GPU temp when using MSI kombustor too. Lower temps but can't remember how much..... smile.gif

Yeah, no aircon. Core max OC is 785mhz (with stock memory). At 792mhz, got 2 errors on OCCT. sad.gif

Added on September 4, 2010, 9:57 pmAlready updated my initial post. Difference in temperature stock vs OC is about 3'c..... smile.gif

@kmarc,do you change the thermal paste on GTX460??It shall help a bit on temperature
*
I have never removed a GC's heatsink before. sweat.gif I think should be quite simple but don't see the need for it as the temp for normal gaming is not so high like in OCCT. smile.gif

Well,my temp drop 9 C on my GTX260 SOC when i did thermal paste change to Tuniq TX2 laugh.gif
But could be due to other factor which i am not aware of smile.gif

Wow! That's a lot! Makes my hands really itchy!!! shakehead.gif

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Sep 5 2010, 09:31 AM)
I always reapply TIM whenever buying new GC.
The stock TIM is not good & badly applied.
Just be careful when removing the cooler do not slip off the screw heads while unscrewing  laugh.gif
*
Arrrggghhh!!! I was already happy with my GC as it is..... cry.gif

Maybe I'll do it next week after I receive my Thermalright Venomous X + Silverstone F12 (x2) fans.... drool.gif (Still worried about it's performance compared to my current Xigmatek S1283.... sad.gif)

Removing the GC's cooler and reappying the TIM won't void warranty right? hmm.gif

Any tips? Just unscrew and pull? sweat.gif

Depends on brand. Some manufacturer put "warranty void if seal broken" sticker on the retention bracket but some don't.
If not mistaken Palit put this sticker.
Ur GayGay is ok to remove its cooler. Last time I even misplaced some of the screws and managed to RMA it successfully.
*
Wah! Missing screws also can RMA ka? thumbup.gif

Ok ok you've convinced me. Will reapply the TIM soon.... maybe even today!!! drool.gif

QUOTE(OC4/3 @ Sep 5 2010, 11:58 AM)
Well,if there are warranty void sticker, use a hair dryer to heat it up a bit, peel it off and stick it on an sticker paper laugh.gif Then you can keep for future RMA usage tongue.gif
Personally, never did this cause never meet had warranty void sticker on my gc before
*
I see. Thx for the tips! Have to go back to check whether there is any warranty sticker or not. I think not. hmm.gif

*
Opened up my rig. Took out graphic card. No warranty sticker on screws.... look at GPU/heatsink interface..... looks ok leh (thinking to myself).... think, think, think..... think, think, think..... decided to be a good boy and not touch the screws...... laugh.gif

GC back in my rig. Gonna play some starcraft!!! rclxms.gif

haha..me will reapply it later since now bz testing d normal TIM..huuu
so far so good...max around 74c @790mhz..sigh
*
Cooler than mine. sad.gif

Ler, in MSI afterburner, you can define your own fan speed la. Even better, you can set many points when you define your temperature/speed. Like the picture below (just an example):

Attached Image

I set 2 points, 50% until 50'c, then linearly increase to 100% at 70'c. In OCCT, I'm getting 4'c lower at 76'c instead of 80'c!!!! rclxm9.gif

Gigabyte twin fan also very silent, not like vacuum cleaner! rclxms.gif

yup in furmark..
but core clock already reduce at 830mhz coz 850 mhz got artifact when stress with occt
at furmark fanspeed about 50% and at occt about 80%
occt gpu test max 70c at 15 minutes stress.
*
Nice. Mine 76'c at full fan speed. sad.gif

So, no errors in OCCT at 830mhz for 15 mins? If so, you have a good card! Mine can only go 785mhz......

Also probably the cooling on Gigabyte is not as good as MSI or ASUS. Imagine 81'c on OCCT!! sweat.gif

Nice. MSI more expensive ler..... how much you bought yours? smile.gif

Nice. Use a stress program to check for stability e.g. OCCT, furmark. Unless you want only gaming stability then no need to stress so much.... smile.gif

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Sep 6 2010, 09:24 PM)
@ kmarc
Your clock is kinda low. Try to push it above 800Mhz @ 100% for benchmark purpose only

*
I don't see the point to OC above my stability point la..... let you all do the benchmarking. laugh.gif

My PCI-E v1.1 is also a bottleneck, not to mention my aging Q6600...... sad.gif

Anyway, just for fun, benchmark above stability point at 1680x1050! whistling.gif

Are you planning to run at 1.075v VDDC? sweat.gif

How's the fan noise at 80%? (Ya, I know it is subjective, just wanna know whether it is noticeable or not)

So you pushed your VDDC to 1.037v?
