for some reason my average clocks damn low and GPU usage also not maxed... wonder what could be wrong?

57C temps is also very weird on a zotac on 80% fans... i remember these card shouldnt be running so cool.....

could it be due to pcie riser? due to only using a SFX 750w psu? Or could it be some windows powerplan settings that i need to do?

it’s behaving damn weird. I added more core clocks and the score actually got lower.

Is your card running at full PCIe x16 speed? Check with GPU-Z.
To achieve highest score in Port Royal, I had to put two case fans on the backplate, blowing towards the area nears the GPU chip and power connectors. Also, 456.55 driver gave me highest scores compared to other drivers.

ah damnnnn it is running on X8 .. guess my riser is broken.

Broken riser is possible, but first try replug the riser and your GPU. See if you can get back the full x16 speed.

yeah.. although ive already ordered a shorter and higher quality riser from china last week that is bound to arrive soon anyways. as my current one is slightly too long.

Such a coincidence...

tried to run the GPU directly without the riser and it's still on x8, even on nvidia control panel it's showing x8.

possible for it to be a faulty card or mobo? mega_shok.gif

proc is ryzen 3600 on a MSI b450I itx mobo. running one m.2 and one sata... looked up online and the m.2 shouldnt affect the bus.

Cleared CMOS already?
Did you accidentally enable this x8+x8 in your BIOS setting?

cleared and even flashed to the latest bios...removing my 2.5" sata didnt fix it either.

After further research it probably looks like a B450 lacking of PCI-e Lanes if using the m.2 slot..... cuz apparently there's also a wifi and bluetooth adapter pre-installed on another m.2 (for my motherboard)

I have no spare HDD to test whether it will go to 16X if I remove the m.2 ssd.... But it seems to be very likely the case after digging around online... however I will validate this when im free.

I have not noticed this maybe because 2080 couldnt saturate the whole 16X3.0 bandwidth so didnt notice any "loss" in performance but the 3080 made it noticeable in benchmark, prompting me to check.

so far looks pretty decent... and direct

i dont think its the nvme unless the bios is bugged for 3600
2600 had only 20.. 4 for chipset and 16 to gpu
and 3600 has 24.. 4 for chipset 16 for gpu and 4 for nvme etc...

nrw clarified and ive confirmed by running on an open bench and tested by removing my ssd. turns out they connected the wifi to an m.2.... then what the ssd is using is the 2nd m.2 slot so causing the gpu to become 8x

AMD experience~

to make sure check with the wifi card disabled/removed please.

just now as edmund_yung kindly pointed out the b450i strix is running the wifi pcie 2230 running over it's chipset.

yeah that will be my next step.. out for lunch at the moment lol.. however with the m.2 ssd removed it already gone back to x16 so kinda 50% proved the hypothesis already.

Strix shares the chipset by disabling sata ports. but this MSI doesnt... so it gives a hint already.

i checked the manual.

this a bug in support for your 3600x

seems like the pcie lane.. the extra 4x is not used. the whole design is based on 2600x

for some odd reason to accommodate compatibility

nrw this is y i always support intel narrative of new cpu, new chipset. mine more for oc perspective.

Welp, just an update, unplugged the wifi and it's still maintained that the 4 lanes is still reserved... perhaps its the way the bios is written for this board...because the second m.2 is not listed in the devices but instead hardcoded under integrated peripherals instead. (i actually tried plugging the SSD into that wifi's m.2 but it's not detected lmao.)

Owell... when I did some benchmark with pcie 16X3.0, my average core clock increased significantly. It is indeed tempting to upgrade to a better board knowing the results but the hassle of migrating all my files and stuff... haih. lain kali lah. will just be contempt with the result because already know what is wrong and have concluded that the RTX3080 is indeed performing on spec and not faulty.

Anyways thanks owikh84 for pointing out on the pcie lanes. I wouldnt have noticed it because will just assumed it will run 16X and also nrw for clarifying on this b450 itx's behavior.

This is my first time not using a gaygaybird board in 12 years and my first MSI board.... Guess im going back to being loyal to gaygaybird.

the board was designed with 2600x in mind which had 20 lanes..

its super weird that it did that for your 3600x...
see the dmi connection on the manual...

i would report to msi...

It comes with a superb VRM setup but regardless a entry board is an entry board.

I will just sell this board and upgrade when i have the mood in the coming weeks. Tomorrow will finish up with my deshrouding mod. Test fitting was successful.

It also made the card alot smaller and the fit is much better.
