also, no one is forcing u to buy iphones every year. if u must have the latest n greatest, go for a maxis plan. say u get ivalue 1, u pay rm1390 for the 16gb ip4 n pay rm100 per month. when a new iphone comes out, u can probably sell the ip4 for ~1.5k and use that money to pay upfront for ip5 n continue ur contract. and so on

anyway, nothing wrong about not using the latest iphone. if ur friends judge u on that, then u need new friends

the 160 limit was known so long ago already. it's the limit for SMS, not just for iphone/maxis. any phone on any network in the world will have a limit of 160 characters per SMS. u can exceed it but it counts as another SMS. lets say i send an SMS containing 400 characters:

1st 160 characters = 1st SMS (lets say the rate is 10sen)
2nd 145 characters = 2nd SMS (another 10sen)
the remaining 95 characters = 3rd SMS (yet another 10sen)

so even im typing one long SMS with 400 chars, i'll be charged for 3 SMS

so to send max 160 chars is 10sen, 305 chars is 20sen, 450 chars is 30sen n so on

interesting. i wouldnt say turning off cellular data 'kills internet tethering' since the option to turn it on is still there. but i tried what u said (tethering wifi-connected iphone with cellular data off to laptop via bluetooth) n yea, i got a "This webpage is not available." tethering using 3g connection is fine.
