Slow?
Check what speed it is connected.

Simply ping a site, see if there's any packet lost.

That's a load of error dude.
Normal connections won't have this many errors..

I believe there's nothing wrong with your ubuntu.
Because on my default installation of Ubuntu, it's fast, downloading at around 100k for 1Mbps connection.
Why not try shutting off the modem and power it on again.

The packets sent but it didn't received response and reported as errors but not packets were dropped.

Do a traceroute fm command line and post the capture the reports. ?

#traceroute www.google.com.my

If you're using a router modem, try NOT to set your Router as DNS server because it could take very long time in "Resolving host" thingy

I'm having the same problem, but mine is ubuntu 4. Just got an external modem so manage to surf the web on linux for the first time. But the connection is slow. I try to test using testmy.net . Windows speed 20kbps, Ubuntu only 7kbps. I'm using dail up blush.gif blush.gif Haven't do much changes so I think most of my configuration is still default.

I will try ifconfig and traceroute command maybe tonight. Can someone explain what the command actually means?

Thanks.

#lsmod

Does the above command show IPV6 listed?

If yes, then do the following

Created a /etc/modprobe.conf file with the following lines:
alias net-pf-10 off
alias ipv6 off

Reboot the system to check lsmod again make sure IPV6 not shown.
