Hi all,

First of all, i do read some of the threads, so HT police dont shot me LOL.

I wanna get a good media player to play downloaded HD movies and maybe some BD quality movies too. with so many formats, player, and etc etc, i dont know what to get.Makes me more confused. There some china ones like Eaget which i see quite ok specs but i dont know how good it is. what i'll do is download to my ext drive and plug in to the media player. i dont need built in hard drive or wireless streaming etc.

Is WDTV good enough or Ac Ryan? Budget less than 600 new or used better can save some ca$$h!!!

Thanks in advance.

Since you do not intend to stream via network (wired or otherwise) and don't want built in HDD features, there are alot of choices out there. The questions that remain would be, do you need BDISO, audio pass through or ability to play RMVB format. Lastly, do you mind "non-branded"?

Looking at it, you seem inclined towards a WDTV which should fulfill most of your needs. Alot of the bros here have already moved on to more canggih boxes. Maybe some of them may have a used unit lying around idle which they are willing to part to you

I think at this point in time the Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ is the best deal. rm239 @ viewnet, level3 Lowyat, rm329 most other places I've seen.

I'd recommend also Yangxi M3 which I have one unit

Is wdtv good enough? Not really. I owned a WDTV Live, the one that has networking feature. Bought it at RM300. If I were to buy another mediaplayer at that price I would pick this

comparing WDTV LIVE and AC RYAN POHD:

if u want to stream using a wifi dongle, WDTV has better compatibililty compared to AC Ryan.. wdtv price is cheaper in that aspect

but if u wanna play rmvb, get an ac ryan

yep, quite confusing. i'm looking to get one for my bro-in-law with an AV amp, with the following needs:

1. RMVB playback
2. The usual 1080p MKV playback
3. DTS-MA / Dolby TrueHD bitstreaming, for MKV's with these tracks
4. BD.ISO with menu is nice to have, but not terribly important as he has a blu-ray player already
5. at least 2.5" internal drive bay << nice to have, but not terribly important
6. big black remote << he wasn't too impressed by my WDTV's small remote tongue.gif

any recommendations? *sellers are welcome to PM me as well if they have anything that supports the above

Nope necessary, the output depend on the media player. Some media player have the RCA connection - red, white and yellow output for old CRT.

but it will be downscale to 480i/480p/576i/576p whichever the highest res ur CRT TV support smile.gif

if u planning to use CRT only, then better stick to those *.avi media files would be sufficient. U can save those precious HDD space...

You can always downgrade to the older firmware. btw, did you upgrade to the beta firmware or the full release? I know wdtv live last firmware was Release 1.02.21 dated (3/30/10) and was working perfectly with all mkv.

Try the brad custom firmware. Its so much better and it even support moviesheet.

Anyone here can give me an idea on this matter :

I need is a media player that can support :-

1.Samsung series 5 till 9 LED (Be getting it soon) <----- which one is good?
2. .Mkv (Majority in my external 2.5" 1TB)
3.DTS (Most file inclusive this sound format)
4. . srt (Subtitle format - some .mkv don't have English Subtitle)
5.Razer Mako 2.1 Desktop Audio System

It will be a great help if someone here could help me straight to the point without mambo jambo lol. All people comment me here and there give me gibberish (language I don't understand lol). I just a simple guy that wants to enjoy good pic quality and sound. That all hehehe

Thank in advance you guys =)
