make sure u find a correct proton SC that allow u to bring own engine oil.. mayb the one that u always go to..
the one i went allowed me to bring own oil.. but when it comes to warranty, she said not to mention tht u used other oil.  blush.gif
but make sure u trust the engine oil tht u bought. tongue.gif
i used semi sync Bardahl for my 1k service a week ago..  I suggest u to use Semi rather than Full. Semi can also be used for 8k-10k km.
Full synthetic is mostly for bigger engine like 1.8 n above.. n it is thicker n heavier compare to Semi.
for 1.6, u will feel abit heavier to rev if u use fully synth..
plus, fully is also used for those country that have winter season as the oil wont freeze up during winter n easy to warm the engine up.
*
I have used Bardahl semi 10W 40 once before @ 10K km oil change & I find that my car does not run as smoothly as when I am using Delphi semi 10W 40. Did you buy the Bardahl @ RM65-something? Its contents is measured in quarts instead of litres. I also feel Fully syn. is a waste of money on the Persona. If you have a lot of $ or you can buy Fully syn. cheap, by all means, us it. By the way, I have used my own lube all this time.

So, where can I buy engine oil? What brand is recommended? Thx  notworthy.gif
*
I don't know where you are from but if you are from KL or PJ or anywhere in the Klang valley, you have plenty of choices. Just buy them from big reputable spare parts shops & you will get a good price. I cannot reveal my source because I get it at wholesale but if you are familiar with the 3rd. Mile Jalan Ipoh area in KL, go to the biggest spare parts shop there & you can choose from a host of lubes there. If you are in PJ, there are the SS2 & Section 8 area with many established spare part shops also. Like I say before, I have already found the most ideal lube for my car (in terms of $ & performance) & it is entirely up to you to find yours. As for recommendations, please spend some time reading the past threads here.

yeah.. Bardahl semi syn is only 3.85 litre. Delphi also not bad. heard some good feedback too on delphi. is it 4 litre?
I will give a try for next service if the price is almost the same.  hmm.gif
*
It is 4 lit. I normally remove about 0.25 lit. from the new pack before letting anyone change my engine oil. The car does not require 4 lit. Actually, 3.6 lit. is still acceptable. The only time I did not use this brand is because my regular suppliers ran out of stocks. Their brake pads are IMHO superior also.

after added orifice valve, metal knocking sound still there when doing cornering?
*
Dude. How old is you car? Mine is going to be 1 year next week (almost 17K Km) & there are not any abnormal music coming from anywhere except the engine humming normally. Either I am deaf or your sense of hearing is like a bloodhound. If it is confirmed that this so called orifice thing is the fault, why didn't Proton insist their supplier to pre-fix it into the steering pump reservoir before assembling it into the car? I thought this problem have been eliminated for new cars.

I went to SC yesterday for 5000km service interval and look what they have found. my fead belt really worn out, luckily it didn't break while me driving. they told me that it was part defect (mean; their supplier of this belt are to blame). really frustrated to see new car with 6000km age already already have such problem. my 158,000km age kelisa had never such problem. i told the sc, why proton car have so much problem? I really regret not getting perodua car instead and they only smile and said "thank you for supporting us at proton". huh... vmad.gif
*
The belt you see at the outside of the engine is the auxiliary drive belt (i.e when you start the engine, it connects the crankshaft, alternator, A/Con compressor, water pump & power steering pump - all via a series of pulleys thus enabling all these components to run simultaneously)

Drive belts are made from one giant roll with no joints. Just like a swiss roll. You cut it to size. I bet it is not a manufacturers defect. It cannot be happening to just one or few cases. It is most definitely an installation problem - at engine assembly stage.

May I know, that is if you have any idea, how many litres of ATF is required for a complete change. Original 4 litres Mitsubishi SP-III cost around RM90. Did you use Proton ATF from SC or your own ATF?

I tried that before. Alarm went off. I felt like a car thief. I thought radio power is controlled by ignition switch.

no need worry. disconnect the -ve terminal for 5 sec...then reconnect back
then u r done.

Added on September 14, 2010, 12:32 pm

2nd option is to locate the fuse for the radio...disconnect and connect back
*
Thanks for the advice. Not a serious problem & I can only hope it does not happen often. Can be very annoying. Pulling out radio fuse won't solve problem.

Wow that must have been a really stupid mech.. This is the prob when too many unqualified mechs around.. They dont know the pros and cons of changing a part in a car.. Maybe next time if u were to bring ur own engine oil u can empty out 200-300ml of it into another bottle before giving it to the mech. At least this would prevent a similar error from occuring.

That's what I have been doing since my first service. Bought my own semi syn lube, poured out excess amount of new pack to another container before heading off to SC. SC cannot reject my lube. because it is a reputable brand & far more superior than recommended spec.

Don't be alarm. This is normal. For me, the sound came and gone after awhile. Brake parts need breakin-in period also.

To all concerned. Can we not discuss FC anymore. Persona is definitely a "gas guzzler" period - because of its sturdy build. Try to enjoy your ride & not think too much of every $ burning out of the exhaust tailpipe. There are definitely many more economical rides out there for the fuel conscious to choose from.

My advice to all those potential buyers of the Persona who are considering this car - If you cannot afford the petrol, opt for something smaller.

Did you get any compensation from the Perodua driver? Or are you making a claim from the other party's insurance? Either way, hard luck.

If warranty expired, try to DIY yourself. But removing the window glass can be quite tricky.

Seems that many personarians face knocking sound on uneven road. Adding the orifice valve did not solve my issue as well. Face this issue after 5 months of using.
Sigh..the sound pretty annoying especially for a new car and if taking passenger. Really shy..tongue.gif
Now problem solve, no more hearing sound on uneven road.
Also my back seat also having weird sound and reported to SC and they put those black tape on the back seat hock. Problem solve.

As at today, I do still here sound provided I turn off my speaker. Maybe due to my 45 series tyre which contribute the sound in my car.

Talking bout fuel consumption, only manage to run 350km on one single full tank on either on RON 95 or 97. Top up fuel when light indicator lid up.

Have been driving mine since Sept. 2009 so it is 1 yr. 2 weeks already ( 17K Km+) today. I must admit that I run mostly on good surfaces (good roads) & I try my best not to make small U-turns or maximum steering wheel turns. I have this notion that doing so will hasten the tearing of both the drive shaft boots & steering tie-rod boots. I am quite surprise you say there are so many Personarians with this knocking sound because mine has none whatsoever.

Come to think of it, I don't see how this so-called valve can solve the problem. The valve serves to allow a one way flow of the power steering fluid & nothing more. And I don't see any valve in the tube below the power steering fluid container of my car. I strongly suspect the guys at the SC inserted the valve as well as tightening the bolt/nuts of all the suspension & steering components. If they did it well. The sound would be minimize or eliminated.

No one knows exactly how many Personas have this problem. It could be an isolated problem (i.e more cars are without this problem rather than with)
Don't you think that Proton,by now, would have told the power steering component supplier to insert this valve into the tube before they assemble the car? Inserting the valve into the tube is not exactly an easy job. They have to remove the fluid, pull out the tube, insert the valve & re-insert the fluid. Too labour intensive & time wasting for all concerned.

how come u never turn finish ur steering, persona cornering radius very bad, almost everyday i will hit my steering finish to do cornering and i feel the car really big with small turn radius.

anyway, want to change my stock rim, want ask, if i change to 15' does the wheel looks smaller?
*
What I meant is, I avoid making U-Turns. For the benefit of those who does not know where the valve is installed or how it looks like. Try going back to V7 of LYN sometime in April 12th. 2010 :-
