Hi all Just a little confuse over SwaretI've just had a discussion with my friend regarding "swaret" for upgrading slackware. He stated that swaret only upgraded the packages and leave the system intact, I mean the /usr , /var, etc. . He did compare it with "cvsup" and FreeBSD I believe that Swaret did upgrade the system and the packages, as I've noticed that if you set the VERSION to "current" , it will upgraded your slackware system to the latest that is available in the current repository. I also notice in QTSwaret (a QT UI for swaret with SPI added) , there is an option for "Upgrade Distro" , meaning that it will upgrade your slack's to the current distro released? I'm a bit confused here , after the debate with my friend. Anyone can shed some light on me? Thanks in advanced. * just notice that google is down while I'm typing this.

i prefer slapt-get than swaret ... Wikipedia for swaret definition QUOTE Swaret is a program for the Slackware distribution of Linux that resolves dependencies. Swaret stands for SlackWARE Tool. p/s try compare swaret with apt-get ,yum, dag ..might be u will find the answer This post has been edited by kevler: May 9 2005, 12:38 AM

Thanks Never try yum or dag before, haven't had the priviliges nor the time to play with other distros.. just my slackware for my everyday use.. I remember a situation when I was using slackware 9.1. I've upgraded my slackware to the current packages regularly using swaret, then one day I try to install dropline gnome (2.8 if i'm not mistaken) just for fun. But the dropline's fail to install , and the error message goes something like, "this dropline is optimized for slackware 10.0 only, it seems that you are using slackware 10.1, would you like to ignore this and continue the installation bla bla bla...." , and this is before slackware 10.1 is officially release. I never did install the dropline though. Thanks for the reply, really appreciated it.

My point is, why does dropline detect the system as 10.1 instead of 9.1 if swaret only upgraded the packages? As u have stated in your previous reply. Thanks
