Hi guys,
Just got myself a cute toy poodle, his name is Teddy and he is now 4 months old. Will post up his pictures soon. Just wondering what brand would you guys recommend for a puppy like Teddy?

I don't mind spending more on his food since he doesn't eat too much anyway. I am currently looking at Orijen, Natural Balance, Artemis..etc.

Just for everyone's information, i am currently feeding Teddy with a brand called Brit Care for puppies which I believe is not a very commonly discussed brand here. Though he is doing rather well with this kibble, but the ingredient list doesn't seem too appealing, as pointed out by fellow member Divas. Really would like to gather more information so that I can switch to a better brand in the future.

Thank you very much

Iskhan is a korean brand right if i am not mistaken. Iskhan only has chicken but i prefer to feed my Teddy lamb or maybe fish.
Anyone here has any experienced with Orijen puppy? it has 40% protein, would it be too much for a toy poodle puppy?

Yea, i was also told that Brit is a new product in the market, it is from Czech. Teddy is doing fine with the kibbles but the ingredient list doesn't look very promising though. The kibbles on the other hand look very very oily, is it normal?

I am looking at changing Teddy's kibbles to Artemis Fresh Mix Small Breed for Puppies or Natural Balance Small Bites for Puppies. Which one do you think i should go for? =)

Good morning everyone,

Wondering anyone knows where can I get Artemis Fresh Mix Small Breed Puppy at a cheaper price? The store near my place is selling it at RM42 with a 10% discount, coming to RM37.80 for a 1.8kg pack.

I am not trying to be a cheapskate but saving a ringgit or two might not seem much, but in the long run I believe it would make a difference =) Hope to get some great info from you guys.

Cheers and have a great day

Good day everyone,

I was informed of some bad news this morning by my girlfriend, apparently my toy poodle, Teddy that i got 2 months ago was from a blacklisted breeder in petfinder.com. There has been many cases where newly purchased pups are diagnosed with parvo or distemper virus few days into ownership and not many has able to fight the deadly virus. The breeder goes by the nick name Cylos Siang or QQpoodles, I believe most of you might have heard of him.

I have to admit to my fault for not performing a thorough background search of the breeder before getting the pup from him, but let bygones be bygones.

The good news is that 2 months has gone by and Teddy is doing fine, appetite is good, energy level is high and everything seems to be good. I do have to note though that Teddy was diagnosed with parasite that was caused by ticks as explained by the vet on the 2nd week. The doc gave him antibiotics and Teddy was as strong as a bull since.

After reading all the bad reviews and all the diseases that seem to be associated with this particular breeder, my girlfriend is in constant worry since.

I know there will an incubation period of 1~2 weeks when a puppy picks up a certain virus, correct me if i am wrong. Teddy has been with us for 2 months now, everything is fine except for the occasional sneeze that drives my girlfriend in panic mode(is it ok?). I would like to know can i safely assume that Teddy is the lucky few that was able to avoid the deadly viruses from the breeder or is there anything i need to do? Is a full medical checkup necessary?

My girlfriend is really shaken up by the news, worrying that Teddy might end up like the other unlucky puppies. I really hope to hear from opinions from you guys. Thanks

Thanks Divas for your swift reply,

I am currently giving Teddy dog kibbles from Brit but switching over to Artemis soon. I believe both of these kibbles are good food but of cause Artemis would be the better of the two. Is supplements necessary because I don't really know much about dog supplements at the moment. Are the supplements used for general well-being or are there specific supplement for specific needs.

I am very glad that I did not recommend any of my friends to the breeder. I have to say he was rather friendly when i first approach him, I guess all good/bad breeders would be nice at FIRST. Regarding the parasite, I forgot the exact names but i wrote it down somewhere at home, will post it up later. The parasite was found after doing a blood smear for Teddy, actually there were two types of parasites found in Teddy's blood. I think one of it was babesiosis and the other i forgot. It seems like one of the parasite was considered rather dangerous while the other not so.

Only oral medication was provided for Teddy in the form of antibiotics, I am pretty sure it was antibiotics. Again i have to check the name for the antibiotics but the vet mentioned that the given medication was the best in the market. The doc did mention that the medication would stain Teddy's teeth, which seem to be the only downside of the medicine.

Teddy is now tick flea after using Frontline and constant look out for ticks on his body.

About his sneezing, i am sure it is not reverse sneezing but it is more like how a human would sneeze. When Teddy sneezes it would usually be single sneeze of one time or continuously up to 3~4 times. This doesn't happen all the time, only occasionally. Is this a sign of allergy or just Teddy trying to remove foreign object from his nose?

I believe my girlfriend would be on a constant look out for any symptoms from today onwards, which i believe is good. That was how we found out about the tick parasite in the first place since he became less active all of a sudden. It was lucky we had the doc do a blood smear before proceeding to give Teddy his vaccine jab, or else it would be very stressful for Teddy if he took the jab.

Once again, thank you Divas for your precious info and suggestions. Will keep everyone informed if anything were to come up =)

I was told that we should shave the toy poodle's puppy coat at least once, to get a nice thick n curly adult coat. Is it a must because I feel bad shaving the little guy. Apart from that, any bad effect from shaving the pup?

Alright, that's what the groomers are telling me. They say if don't shave the fur won't be curly and thick. Apart from easily catching a cold, would there be other complications?

Good day everyone,

There is a question I would like to ask all MALE Toy Poodle owners. At what age would their testicles descend to their scrotum? My Teddy boy turns 1 years old next month and I just noticed a black bulge beneath his genitals. After close inspection and some confirmation through online search, It is proven that the black bulge is Teddy's scrotum.

The problem is, there is only one testicle in his scrotum, the left one. His right testicle is still located around his abdominal area. Is it too late for his testicle to descend at this point?

I have read articles saying that dogs with Cryptorchidism (Undescended testicle) are 13.6 times more likely to have testicle cancer. I am going to bring Teddy to the vet tomorrow but I hope to hear some thoughts from you guys. Thanks
