QUOTE(sasaug @ Oct 12 2011, 09:07 PM) Somehow I feel this new architecture is just a beginning for AMD. They say it scales pretty well when u go into more cores etc. if they have done this i think maybe the This was just the 1st batch of a new design. They got more plans and stuff ahead so perhaps, that was their plan. remove or trim down the massive L3 cache to make room for 2 more ALU in each of their "core".. this way they can get more ipc than compared to now because right now, there are only two alu for each "core" This post has been edited by ben_panced: Oct 12 2011, 09:24 PM |

QUOTE(izzat80 @ Oct 13 2011, 08:52 AM) wait for enhanced bulldozer, i think it will come out by beginning of 2012... pfft.. u mean just 10% improvement on performance next year? while SB is already 40% more efficient and powerful clock for clock compared to current BD? how many years does it take amd to have a comparable cpu compared to current SB?![]() ur CPU is good enough for most things now.. unless u r into very heavy gaming.. just wait all people blame and curse AMD, not knowing that global foundaries (the fab company amd uses) had serious issues, and bulldozer was one of the victims.. AMD always comes back ... |

QUOTE(izzat80 @ Oct 13 2011, 09:19 AM) I dont know bro does it look like Im working with AMD? I was just answering to the guy he already bought a AM3+ board and was asking what he should do.. Do you know what AMD did around the year 2003? thats when it revealed a CPU faster than the fastest intel.. it wasn't expected but they did pull it off and went way ahead of intel... it was called the FX series intel has vast resources, amd has been losing money for a long time now. and the global foundaries mess up really hit them bad.. they are probably the cause of all the delays.. just look at BD 8120 and 8150.. the speed difference between the two chips is vast, do you know what this indicates? this tells the yeild on the 8120 units was bad, so had to be underclocked.. clearly an indication of a really messed up fabrication proccess (GLOBAL FOUNDARIES again) from an engineering point of view, bulldozer is completely new and "IN THEORY" should have been great. but in pracise, amd has to rely on other companies to pull it together, and this case unfortunately some of its partners messed up and now everyone is shouting at amd. and WHY OH WHY are you whining and complaining about per clock and all that? this is a stuggling company and I read what some of its people wrote.. I really hope they pull it together again, its good for everyone to have a good thriving AMD The Smarter Choice no to mention having twice the number of transistors compared to the faster and more efficient cpu.. i was hoping also that BD might give us a suprise, but now that it is not, i am now regret my decision to wait for BD before upgrading my old and trusty 3.5 years old q6600 |

the problem with bd is
although the front end got like 4 instruction decoder, but it is shared by two cores, and the decoder can only service 1 core at a time, contributing to its slowness in ST.. furthermore, each core only has 2 integer ALU compared to 4 in intel cpus starting fro C2D.. so you get the point why this BD performance is very underwhelming.. couple it with a long instruction pipeline and a very high latency cache.. and you got your self a very slow CPU |
