been waiting for so long already....
Here's hoping it's cheaper and as fast as SNB.

QUOTE(dma0991 @ Jun 15 2011, 11:54 PM) Ultrabook is the concept that comes along with Ivy Bridge and it is set to be launched around April next year. Most probably AMD can't deliver the performance that you seek if your work is very CPU intensive but I don't see the harm trying out Llano anyways. I second this.Hell, throw in a SSD in an old C2D laptop and it'll be much more responsive than a laptop with i7 2630qm + normal 5400RPM/7200RPM HDD.Lets just say that the price of the A8 is RM2100, add in a 120GB 3rd gen SSD which should amount to ~3k and you have a solid laptop for just about anything. IMHO a SSD has better noticeable performance gain in terms of system responsiveness than an upgrade to a better CPU. Added on June 16, 2011, 1:15 am QUOTE(ALeUNe @ Jun 16 2011, 12:12 AM) Yes, generally SSD gives you the most significant performance boost. A known fact. the 4830TG is RM2499,let's say an AMD A8 laptop costs RM2100,add a RM400 60GB~ SSD and it'll be much more responsive laptop.Unless of course one needs the CPU power. We do not know how ultra portable Llano is. And what are the models available for Malaysian market. 12"? 13.3"? 14"? MYR2100? I'd consider an Acer 3820TG or 4830TG instead. I reckon it is approx MYR3000 too (+ an SSD, of course). Balance performance of both CPU and GPU. This post has been edited by Racerx: Jun 16 2011, 01:15 AM |

The performance is simply disappointing,it's only a bit faster than a Phenom II clock for clock [sometimes even slower,WTH AMD?]
No wonder it has been delayed this long,if it was launched earlier it wouldn't stand a chance at all. |

QUOTE(billytong @ Oct 13 2011, 03:41 PM) The difference is Nvidia have the performance with a larger more power hungry chip, it beat ATI completely. But here.... AMD, they are neither. Big for nothing. the 16MB cache is a waste of money. IMO they took a wrong gamble by making BD their own version of Intel's Pentium 4 in which they targeted higher clockspeeds over IPC performanceThey should have take Phenom II X4/X6 and tweak it, shrink it down to 32nm for higher frequency or add two more cores to become X8 using the smaller 32nm tech. All these can easily finish SB 1155 in multitask area better than the stupid BD now. And the R&D is also much cheaper, because u take an old chip and tweak it. |

QUOTE(billytong @ Oct 13 2011, 04:06 PM) The only last hope they have is like what Anandtech said, to repeat the success of Pentium 4 northwood. pentium 4 northwood does beat the AthlonXP by seer amount of extra GHz without hitting the power consumption too much. It actually fix what Willamate Pentium 4 cant do. Not until Prescott Pentium 4, Intel just broke their own arm by increasing the pipeline further in Prescott. Infact Intel manage to increase the pipeline of Prescott without sacrificing the IPC, but unfortunately they ignore the heat and power wall they gonna hit when they reach 3.8GHz. In this case they have to rely on the mature 32nm global foundry tech or may be even smaller to archive it. They'll hit power and thermal walls quite soon if they follow through with this.I mean, look at the FX-8150,it's already gobbling down massive amounts of power on stock as it is.BD should have clock @ 4GHz+ not 3.6GHz. If they have release BD 1000MHz extra @ 125w TDP from now. nobody will have complain. |
