QUOTE(adie82 @ Sep 4 2011, 12:13 PM) I think that should be the way if FM2 has the same pin count and pin position as FM1. There should be backwards compatibility if it is true and I do think AMD wouldn't be changing sockets without backwards compatibility with every processor generation they produce. |

QUOTE(kingkingyyk @ Sep 4 2011, 11:28 PM) I'm still wondering whether I should upgrade my system. If upgrade, I have two option ;1. Sell off my mobo, ram and proc and buy SandyBridge after pricedrop when BullDozer launches 2. Change my motherboard now to am3+, then after bulldozer out, I'll change my processor |

Not very likely that SB will have a price drop although it is speculated to happen. Intel could easily just sell a refresh with higher stock clock speeds or BD is not going to be for every user so it doesn't bother Intel at all that they should reduce their prices.1. Stick with AM3+ boards that have the 970 or 990 chipsets and a full sized board as I have seen some of the CPU support list for the Gigabyte's range and lower end boards will only support 95W TDP Bulldozers while higher tier boards will be able to support all. Could be applicable to other brands as well. |

Supposedly there are rumors saying that there will be a SB refresh to counter BD at launch but it is still a rumor only. SB is the next best thing to BD I think as there are rumors of Ivy Bridge being delayed as well. Pricing depends but should be around RM900 +-2. So you adviced me to buy higher end mobo/a good mobo if i want to but the mobo now? btw, when is bulldozer predicted to launch? next week? 2. Not necessarily high end. Some boards cant support a 125W TDP processor . Just double check the CPU support list of the board you're buying if you intend to get the top end FX-8150. I have no idea but they should release it soon. Rumored to be 19th September but starting to sound less and less likely. We'll see what comes by then. |

there is even a possibility that the AM3 mobo might support BD as well. Your Athlon X3 is still a decent CPU, I see no reason to upgrade for now.

AMD's CPU division needs to be replaced by the ATI division. At least we can count on ATI to deliver a new GPU generation every year!

Lol at this rate they gonna follow the footsteps of Voodoo5, as far as I know 3DFX does not delay voodoo5 this long.

QUOTE(zerorating @ Aug 31 2011, 02:51 PM) its 12core vs 6 core, sure bulldozer got advantage if the program can work on multiple core, really worried about Bulldozer IPC why need 8 core to run dirt 3 ![]() 3 bulldozer core takes 60-75% cpu usage for running dirt 3 (fps unknown),have lots of resources to use, but too bad that hardly to see games that utilized more than 3 core |
